'House Nation'? bloody hell - this looks great tho, and i just downloaded that Brian Eno album the other day - not heard anything on this mix except all the 80s classics

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

f- me if wordyrappinghood isn't everywhere at the moment !

piscesboy, Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the Zoot Woman remix is actually a COSMOS one! damn you amazon

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

so this has been released then?

disco stu (disco stu), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah bought it today.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The Fabric comps are so well executed and conceived. I want to collect them all...What was Fabric Live 8? I thought the Hipp-e and Halo mix was quite good...I don't know if that's Fabric Live or not though.

disco stu (disco stu), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

the next fabric is Doc Martin...

man, i'm into this lu cont mix.
of course, here's one of my sets:

ELO: Livin' Thing
Ace: How Long
Lipps Inc.: How Long

david day (winslow), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Lu Cont is at his best right now, I'm convinced. After those amazing remixes of Silver Screen Shower Scene and Danger! High Voltage!, and a 2 of the best dj sets I've seen, it's hard to not be convinced.

Fabric Live 08 was the Plump DJs I think, though there is a difference between Fabric Live and Fabric is there? I'm pretty sure twas Plump DJs anyway though, I have that one, it's very good.

I really dislike the cover art on the series. The comps themselves depend on the artist I guess.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 17 April 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't mind the cover art, but I agree it doesn't compare to their recent (last year or so) flyers and advertising in general which is fantastic.

Agree that the comps depend on the artist, but it also takes some well honed curatorial skills to pick the djs for the comps...

disco stu (disco stu), Thursday, 17 April 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Surprise to see Mr Lu CONT has great taste.

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 17 April 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

why a surprise?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 April 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Strauss into Eurythmics, fucking believe! crazy shit, I remember him dropping the Strauss tune in Dublin (haha never thought I could say that), anyway he "drrrrrrroppped a strauss record", the one from Space Odyssey and as lame and old skool DJ as it was it was fucking great.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 April 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Just started listening to this... sounds great so far.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 April 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't stop listening to this mix. Great shit.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 April 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

tho i hate it for making me like the steve miller song

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 April 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It's fucking perfect, I love it.

Highlights

Strauss into Eurythmics which is absolutely blindingly mixed into the Cosmos remix of It's Automatic and then just to top it off THAT'S mixed into the Medicine8 mix of David by Gusgus, that whole section is stunning.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

this will be the first CD i buy this year i have decided

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I want this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't wait to see him again at Glasto, he's close to being my favourite DJ and I've only seen him twice.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i love that 'jajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja....' pan-stereo bit that isn't even part of any particular track

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

It's true... this mix rocks.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't get the love for this at all

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i am programmed to jacques

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the only thing i cant do is rhyme something with orange. it's my kryptonite

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

the jajajajajjajajajajajajajaj bit is maybe the best, that song afterwards is great too.

stylewise he's kind of all over the place, his sets in clubs are better than the cd.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been listening to this a lot lately, and I must say, it's very very good.

chris (chris), Friday, 30 May 2003 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ummm... so i'm retarded. i just now realized that's craig from shudder to think singing "miss you." i love this mix 10 times more now. but the dj language vs. negroclash mix is still better.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 30 May 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't like that 'Miss You' cover, what the hell is with the out-of-step vocals - i'm still not convinced it even works technically

stevem (blueski), Friday, 30 May 2003 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's good though I've read some ott hype about it.

Has anyone heard the Lu Cont track off the Madonna album? Apparently he did actually produce one. Shame he didn't get the whole job.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 31 May 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

ah why bother wasting his talent on that ol' has-been eh? he'll probably end up doing something with Bowie tho

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 1 June 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
finally got this and it really is good.
any other mixes as good this year ?

best mix compilations this year so far ?

piscesboy, Monday, 27 October 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

well, it depends how much enjoyment you are deriving from the "eclecticism" on display. i usually skip straight to "give it up" and turn it off when it gets to "house nation".

so if you're listening to it for glammy electro-house vibes then you may also want to check out david guetta's "fuck me i'm famous" dj mix (on some french label).

on a similar but not entirely related note i also have to recommend the gus gus mix and the bent mix from fabric, though these are more in the territory of last year's playgroup dj kicks. in definite running for best trad tech-house mix is dj rolando's new nite:life mix.

i'm not yet fully convinced by villalobos' taka taka mix and chicken lips nite:life mix, though i've enjoyed both. the chicken lips mix is a little too generic, taka taka is annoyingly idm-oriented.

i've heard good things about daniel bell's "button down mind strikes back" but haven't actually heard it yet.

naturally we'll all want to reserve judgement until we hear the michael mayer fabric mix and the chicken lips dj kicks mix.

oh and i'm too embaressed to admit that my favorite dj mix so far this year has been disco d's "night at the booty bar".
