"Third Eye Blind will portray veteran U.K. rock act the Kinks on an upcoming episode of the NBC series "American Dreams." With 3EB frontman Stephan Jenkins playing the role of Kinks leader Ray Davies, the nostalgic series' May 4 episode will feature the band covering the "All Day and All of the Night," a No. 7 Billboard Hot 100 hit for the Kinks in 1965."

GOOD GOD NO!!!!

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I would comment insightfully and wittily and that, but the extent to which this just DOES NOT WORK has actually fucked my brain out of my ear.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

ERRGAFFFT!!!!!!

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

*continued sounds of seizure....*

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank god no one actually watches that show... it'll probably get canceled before the episode airs.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i have no idea what third eye blind even are.

matthew james (matthew james), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I watched the show once & liked it! So take that, Aaron!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

jesus, this and the puff daddy/robert johnson thing
fuck that+

robin (robin), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It just begs a few questions: whose idea was this? Who thought roping in a -- for all intents and purposes -- washed up mid-90's band to portray the Kinks was a good idea? Why did Third Eye Blind agree to do it? Who is the target audience?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 17 April 2003 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y-- Why were you watching that instead of the Simpsons??? Unless it was a rerun which I guess I could understand.

Anyway, the target audience of American Dream is people who don't watch the Simpsons, I'd guess.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 17 April 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate the Simpsons these days, and anyway I was home in Virginia where we only get CBS and NBC. So it was that or Touched By An Angel (my mom's fave show).

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 17 April 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The target audience is me, that meth-head asshole who sings their songs is totally hot.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 17 April 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think i'll be able to take the inevitable "actually, this is GREAT!" turnover that will happen once the budding anti-canonists hear of this...

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 17 April 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

yanc3y is right. anyone who watches the simpsons is a fucking moron.

no one but you guys have any idea who the kinks are or what they look like and 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' 'semi-charmed life' it's just like a ten second segment

that guy from who's line is it anyway played some guy too the 'why do fools fall in love guy' i think it's just because the girl on the show is always in the bandstand place it's not a major thing we have bigger things 2 worry about

d k (d k), Thursday, 17 April 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a weird ok'ness with Third Eye Blind. Maybe just because I think it'll be fun whenever the day comes that we can no longer say bands' names aloud and instead have pantomime them in conversation.

Plus spotting Stephen J. was the only fun thing in watching the Marky Mark movie Rock Star. Feel the vibrations!

That said I don't think the brothers Davies will take so kind to Third's rendition of David Watts.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 17 April 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't seen the show but the ads seem vaguely facist somehow.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Thursday, 17 April 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

It could be worse... They could have hired Matchbox 20 for that part... :P

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Thursday, 17 April 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

And the show is so awful too. It's ANOTHER one of those things that thinks it's original to remind us that "the 60s were a time to turmoil!" I fucking get it, Nam happened, the civil rights movement fucking happened, hippies happened, oh fucking kay, I get it! There's nothing more that can be said, let's move on.

David Allen, Thursday, 17 April 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm so looking forward to pantomime band speech that it's not even funny.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 April 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

When I understood what the concept of American Dreams was, I wanted to find the show's creators and put them in a stump grinder.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 April 2003 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I love American Dreams, it's totally my guilty pleasure! I can't say I agree with the choice of pop stars who portray Bandstand performers, but overall it's not bad. Probably has something to do with the record store clerk...

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Friday, 18 April 2003 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

this sounds disasterous, but i might tune in to hear how bad Steve Jenkins's English accent will be!

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 April 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Usher's Marvin Gaye coulda been worse

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 April 2003 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I will enjoy watching this more than I enjoyed listening to ARE Weapons -- that's for sure.

Andy K (Andy K), Friday, 18 April 2003 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You trying to match my enthusiasm for ARE with disgust post-for-post, Andy?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 April 2003 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i like semi-charmed life.

brian badword (badwords), Friday, 18 April 2003 04:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Stephen Jenkins is cute in a stupid ass way, but they're way too old.

Arthur (Arthur), Friday, 18 April 2003 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Never Let You Go is another good single of theirs.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Friday, 18 April 2003 05:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Their finest moment = "Losing a Whole Year"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 18 April 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes and no, Yanc3y.

Andy K (Andy K), Friday, 18 April 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

An American Dream IS that Blink 182 would be as good as the Kinks - instead of as good as Blink 182.

And I wish Peter Blegvad would be releasing a new record with artwork by Andy Partidge.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 18 April 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Blink 182 = 3rd Eye Blind. Whatever.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 18 April 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Next up on Star Search:
Celine Dion as Billie Holliday!
David Gray as Neil Young!
Arnold Schwartzenegger as *both* members of Right Said Fred!
     and...
Shakira as a young Robert Plant!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 18 April 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Where are Menswear or Northern Uproar?

dave q, Friday, 18 April 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

They get to take turns being the Dave Clark Five and the Who

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 18 April 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

nine months pass...
I went to Best Buy yesterday to look for the damn Eamon CD (not out yet) and they were playing an ad for this on the giant TV screen. There is no god.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 13 February 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I really don't remember the Kinks bobbing their heads THAT violently in any footage I've seen.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 13 February 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

This whole series was something I was imagining causing the destruction of all careers involved, starting with its creators.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 February 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick Lachey IS Tom Jones!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 13 February 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope someone reads this and actually kills them.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 13 February 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Roxy even more now!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 February 2004 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.3eb.com/news/images/1_thirdeyeamdr13.jpg

Oh the humanity.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 14 February 2004 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeez, you'd think they'd at least drop the emo thing and wear something period for this.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 14 February 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Good lord, they're such dicks!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

At least they got the Gibson Flying Vee part correct.

jim wentworth (wench), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

At least they're not Hootie and the Blowfish.

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

At least I wasn't there showering them with a combination of sewage and slime before finding the creative producer behind this all and dumping the rest over their heads and saying "FUCK YOU AND YOUR FUCKING NOSTALGIA TRIP YOU MORONS."

Lucky them.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Gets Riled...

jim wentworth (wench), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I admit to annoyance.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Admit it though, you loved The Wonder Years.

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The Kinks would be a good choice to do the Kinks.
A little makeup and they'd look 50 again.

jim wentworth (wench), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Admit it though, you loved The Wonder Years.

Actually never really saw it beyond an episode or two. Frankly, I think I burned out on sixties nostalgia series with Call to Glory.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
I still can't believe this was real. *lights a single candle*

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 24 July 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

when was it on?

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 24 July 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Stephan has also been cast to play Ned Raggett in ILX: The Movie now.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 24 July 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, that was the wrong thing to say.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 24 July 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

he's covering "Soon" for the soundtrack too.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 24 July 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't tell if that's some variety of neckbeard or a crappy fur collar of some sort. And I can't tell which would be worse.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 24 July 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeez, I just ate. But I'm catching up on lost sleep here in a sec so hopefully no nightmares.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 July 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

corrie ham (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 07:31 (seventeen years ago)

Mark G, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 07:38 (seventeen years ago)

corrie ham (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 07:44 (seventeen years ago)
