this article nails it superbly for me. not a radical observation of course, but an accurate one surely. how many here prefer CD:Uk and Popworld to TOTP? the vast majority i'll bet. although the two former shows are more suited to the older viewer's schedule, somewhat ironically.

despite this, it would seem TOTP's future is secure. but what would you do with the show if you had control of it (if anything)?

my personal gripe is they will get the same bands on three weeks in a row, even though the song has only gone down the charts in that time - of course it never used to be like that but even in the 80s i'm sure you didnt see a song performed in consecutive weeks unless it was number 1, but i suppose they're just desperately trying to boost the lifespan of today's hits (but ignoring a lot of other music released that week lower down the chart annoyingly).

I've said this before on here,I think this show needs a complete change.New producer, new set design(something much groovier, with different sets for each type of track-say a late 70's new wave look for indie type groups, space age look for dance acts & loads of nice optical effects/special video effects)those white chequered backdrops are so uninspiring. They should get rid of that awful logo & replace it with the classic logo.I agree,Popshow looks so much better even though I don't get to see it too often.

Daniel Bedingfield needs to be on it every week.

yeh i saw Rob Brydon's picks on TOTP2 earlier - its a good idea to get people on and pick their faves...in theory. i think i quite like that Focus song 'Sylvia'

that new Daniel Bedingfield single is a disgrace...i'm also mad at him as his comments in Metro's 60 Second Interview saying 'i used to be a web designer but i'd rather work in Starbucks than spend 15 hours a day at a computer screen' are resonating quite deeply with me right now.

Hehe, I read that too. I don't see what's to get mad about though.

I like the new Daniel Bedingfield single: it's controlled. Admittedly, less so than all the others but I still like it.

I agree with the above: as soon as TOTP started playing tracks which went down the charts, that was the death knoll for me. I'm not keen on TOTP 'exclusives' either, where artists whose songs aren't even out yet get to foist their efforts on us anyway. It also annoys me (I'm on a roll now) when groups come over and record four different singles in the studio (Whitney Houston did it I remember) and then each one gets reeled out as and when the singles are released. Finally, when something interesting does get in the charts, and let's face it, with singles sales being so low these days, it does happen, TOTP will usually ignore it and stick Atomic Kitten on instead. I'm in a sulk because Lemon Jelly's Nice Weather for Ducks wasn't on it a few weeks back.
