Bright: Classic or Dud?

Improv-based guitar-drone duo from Boston bridging the gap between indie-rock and ambient. Their albums are a bit overlong for the style of music they play, but in smaller doses I find them to be quite compelling. Guitarist Mark Dwinell recently released a solo album, Nonloc— anyone heard it? How does it stack up against Bright?

I rather like them in the 'put the music on and do not focus and zone and feel comforted' sense. Which is often all that matters.

Like 'em. still haven't heard his solo album. He's playing in San Francisco tonight at 964 Natoma w/ Charles Atlas and Park Avenue Music so I can probably report back on it tomorrow. If anyone is in the City and has nothing to do come down. It's a warehouse show (at 964 Natoma in the SOMA district, near Slim's), lots of cushions, sliding scale, $1 sangria. 9:00PM SHARP.

Classic, definitely.

"Blue Christian" is brilliant, s/t and "Full Negative.." are fab as well.

Mark Dwinell's solo record is OK, too much of the singing though. I like the vocals in Bright being muted and adding an extra texture, but on nonloc its mixed too high and the lyrics tend to clutter up the gorgeous arrangements...
