i think i have the artist and song title correct.

i remember seeing the video for this song in the early eighties. i liked it, but i was only about ten years old at the time. haven't heard it since. i think the video had the singer in a phone booth singing the lyrics into the phone.

i did some research on the web once, and i remember reading that someone had done some dancey/electronicky remix of it. don't remember the specific genre.

your recollections/thoughts concerning the original? did i have okay taste as a ten-year-old, or does this song kind of suck?

I like it and it was on a tape my dad had in the car. There's been quite a bit written on ILM about this track. Do a search for 1982 and I'm sure you'll find it.

thanks for your advice...
unfortunately, due to idiosyncrasies/limitations of the search feature, it failed to bring up any mention of it.

no suck, song good. think the synth arpeggio-ey thing every time he sings "woman" is espesh clever

This was a big hit in Australia. I remember the video being quite comic, but then when you heard the song without seeing the clip, it suddenly became evident that this was a very sad, emotional song, not comical at all. Good example of how a clip can change one's perception of a song.

Nice song. Lead singer Jim Diamond later had a UK #1 hit with the somewhat more AOR-oriented "I Should Have Known Better".
