Alex, have you heard "Bomber"? I would think you would like it!!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 21 April 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't Joe Walsh like a 70s J. Mascis?

Sean (Sean), Monday, 21 April 2003 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Joe Walsh was awesome with the James Gang!
James Gang>Steppenwolf is the historical biker rock arguement

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Monday, 21 April 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoah! god just sucked all the remaining punk rock out of me...

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Monday, 21 April 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"rides again" is pretty good. must check out the earlier shit. the beat club performance of "walk away" (shows on vh1 classics once in a while) is goddamn great, really. (as is the deep purple 'highway star' performance, which ends in a big crescendo of guitar and organ noise.)

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 21 April 2003 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah the ones w. j.walsh are great but what about the ones w. (forgot their names, guy who was in the guess who & some other guy) or the ones w. tommy bolin? i bet someone here knows

I really dig "Rides Again," though I don't dig Walsh's singing style too much (especially as featured on the rockin' side one; it's more suitable for the balladz). His voice is kind of thin and pinched; he's no Steve Marriott.

Can anyone speak to any of Walsh's solo/post-James Gang material? Yay, nay?

Sam J. (samjeff), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Rides Again is pretty good, but Yer Blues really was their best. My favorite trick is to get really wasted and play the original, full-length 9 minute version of "Bluebird" by Buffalo Springfield side-by-side with the James Gang cover of it from Yer Blues. Much fun to be had.

I've got the Best of Joe Walsh which is pretty good in spots. "Turn to Stone" and "Time Out" are a couple great guitar cuts inna washed-out 70's stylee.

Now, to follow on duane, has anybody heard the Bolin era?!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. D, you are my official go-to man these days!

(It's "Yer Album," though, isn't it?)

Sam J. (samjeff), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

duh. of course, you are correct!! I've got Lennon on the brain or sumthin'. At least I didn't refer to "Bluebird" as "Blackbird" as I have on occasion!

(also, I haven't gotten over to get that Genrich disc yet ... hopefully this weekend)

GREAT clip, and cool arrangement of the tune. Thx for posting!

Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 02:53 (sixteen years ago)

my pleasure stormy

what's the line on the "In Concert" LP, any good? I always see it around and haven't picked it up yet. If it's anything like this I may have to ebay it

Johnny Hotcox, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 02:56 (sixteen years ago)

Pretty meh, if you ask me - a terrible blues, a pretty boring 18-minute "Lost Woman" and some "Rides Again" tracks really suffer without the orchestrations. (Great "Walk Away" tho.) No reason not to own Yer Album and ...Rides Again first.

Haven't a clue about the post-Joe stuff...

Stop wishing death on people just for the cool thread titles (Myonga Vön Bontee), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

Post-Joe LPs are very spotty. Dominic Troiano and Tommy Bolin (2 albums apiece) were both hot guitar players, but hampered by uninteresting 70s rock songwriting/production imo. I've never heard the records that came after those two guys.

Would love to see a Joe Walsh vs. Billy Gibbons showdown, but really would just rather hear them trade stories back and forth.
