50 Cent / Ja Rule Beef -- Thoughts!

Okay so anyone else heard these tracks but me?

As far as I know 50 starts the beef going after Ja Rule for tryina be him (apparently provoked by the Murder crew's baiting him for taking out a protection order against them and snitching, in turn provoked by his mainly *unprovoked* disses at Ja Rule on his mixtapes in turn sorta provoked by the incident which got him shot). Ja shoots back and straight murders that shit like he's eastwood in unforgiven or something -- like solid, hard, and dead fucking serious. Em comes in and lays the disses but tries to cool things out on the Hail Mary remix with 50 cent on that track too. Apparently all the Em disses & more are gonna be on the Conspiracy Theory mixtape. Meanwhile there's also UGK's Z-Ro heading up *another* 50 cent dis. on the snitch theme with Scarface in tow.

Anyone have any thoughts on this in particular? Like 50s disses really bore me -- the man puts quantity way ahead of quality which is cool for flooding the market but weak for actually taking a guy on -- Ja obviously *doesn't* want to be 50 and he *hasn't* been serious about the pac mantle in that way for years. So Em and 50 prove they can bite Pac's flow better than Ja -- who fucking cares, Ja's doing his own thing now he "sings and blings" anyway. Em's is lyrically the tightest, naturally, but he doesn't have much to bring either except for all the clever "me and my daughter like to sing to your songs" concessions he makes.

Ja meanwhile just brings it straight and hard and crosses a few lines along the way but hey, he just got dragged back into beefing which he's been saying is behind him, so he crosses those lines right back. Like "I'm doing my own thing, but you want me to play by street standards I'll fucking murder you", y'know?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 21 April 2003 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

what did ja rule have to do with 50 cent getting shot?

robin (robin), Monday, 21 April 2003 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

From a MTV news report from 2000 on the shooting:

"

Not everyone in the music industry took 50 Cent's jibes so lightly. On the
heels of "How To Rob...," he released "Ghetto Qor'ran," a track that recounts
stories about notorious New York hustlers. Several well-publicized incidents
have taken place between 50 Cent and fellow Queens resident Ja Rule,
including a scuffle between the two MCs in an Atlanta party for Ja Rule and
an alleged stabbing incident at New York's Hit Factory recording studio."

i.e. there's an implied connection but no real answer.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 21 April 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

personally, i think the fact that ja rule and 50 cent hate each other is the only redeemable thing about either of them.

brian badword (badwords), Monday, 21 April 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i think they're both mediocre MC's and whether one is more 'real' than the other doesn't make much of a difference to me. I think it's a bit dodgy for 50 to be pushing "21 Questions" as a single right now - it's as corny as any of Ja's r&b hits, and the video is basically "Put It On Me" all over again. and 50 doesn't need a cheesy love joint to sell anyway, he's doing fine as is.

i mean, I'm as sick of Ja as the next, but really, this whole backlash he's getting is a bit over the top, and especially hypocritical coming from other pop rappers who pull a lot of the same shit. it's not like getting rid of Murder Inc. will end the popularity of sing-song boy/girl r&b/rap crossovers.

"Hail Mary" has been getting a lot of airplay around here lately, more than any dis track in memory (except maybe "Ether")...it's compelling in a car-wreck kinda way, all the accusations and insults. one of the first times i've ever been impressed by a 50 verse, and it's weird to hear Busta getting all nasty and mad for a sec.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 21 April 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay I got the chronology backwards -- there's the Hail Mary mix as the original dis and THEN there's another Em dis track which I'm talking about later, or two or three even.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 21 April 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I was referring to the new "Hail Mary" with Em, 50 and Busta Rhymes...which is definitely really new because Busta refers to the incident in which the 106&Park audience booed Ja's "The Reign" video when it premiered, which happened just a couple weeks ago.

i haven't heard any of the Ja's dis tracks, which, unsurprisingly, aren't getting nearly as much play on the radio as 50's disses...even DJ's are clowning on Ja these days, apparently a lot of pent up aggression from having to listen to him yell on their station every day for the past 3 years. 50 is this year's model, so everyone's behind him. it's very clear who's going to come out on top of this. i can see this getting pretty ugly...prolly not Pac/Big ugly, but maybe a serious Vanilla Ice type career death for Ja.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 21 April 2003 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ja's an easy target but he can throw the shit back for real when hated on. I'm startin' to think that both of 50's hit songs are successful for reasons other than what he brings to the tracks. Thug credibility is nothing to be proud of or encouraged. I imagine a feud could help each other's sales though. Doesn't Nas largely owe his comeback to Jigga's Takeover? What made the Jay-Z vs. Nas battle so neat was how different their lyrical themes. It was an epic battle between hustler and prophet, kinda like that showdown in the desert that took place in Sun Ra's "Space is the Place" movie. Are Ja and 50 really different as personalities enough to make an entertaining battle?

theodore fogelsanger, Monday, 21 April 2003 03:31 (twenty-two years ago)

it's kind of not very exciting to have a feud between two pretty boring guys who aren't good at insulting each other. they're mainly just saying bad stuff about each other, instead of stuff that might make you say 'uh-oh! that was clever and mean and the person it was directed at will feel bad.' they're both kind of sucky and you don't know who to support.

i like 50's mixtape flow better than the slow, deliberate stuff on get rich. that's one thing. and it was cool to hear busta saying mean things to someone. :;;;;;;;;

what are the names of the ja rule tracks? i just know he said something about hailey and eminem got madder.

d k (d k), Monday, 21 April 2003 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I can't find the lyrics to the ja track anywhere but its reported as "loose change" and I think the mp3 is floating around. His line on Hailey was something like "Your mom's a crackhead and kim's a whore / just think what little hailey's headed for"

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 21 April 2003 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

is JaRule beef anyway near as tasty as Jimmy Dean sausage!

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Monday, 21 April 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

didn't 50 cent stab ja rule with a butter knife a few years back?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 21 April 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they should sit down and settle their troubles via a spirited game of Stratego.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 21 April 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Aren't they both like 5'2" or something?

maria b (maria b), Monday, 21 April 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

they both suck

Ben Silver (Ben Silver), Monday, 21 April 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
re the 5'2" thing Em starts his dis track with a clip of I think hailey going "daddy is ja rule taller than me?" and he replies "no honey, you're both the same height."

but mainly i'm reviving to see if anyone else has heard the new dis track from the ja rule camp, which tells the whole damn "snitch" story and I think cuts 50 real hard.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 8 May 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean "They Shootin'" on Kay Slay's Drama Kings. Or soemthing newer?

SFJ (SFJ), Thursday, 8 May 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have any interest in these dis exchanges unless they happen to be -very- entertaining, and I just don't see a dis coming from either of these jokers to be much fun. At least J*y-Z and N*s had some funny punchlines, but judging from 50's Ghostface dis (and really, who does he think he is?) he takes the shit way too seriously and seems to forget that it's all about entertainment. I'd have trouble following this beef, because I can't even bring myself to listen to Ja Rule anymore.

Bobby D Gray (bedhead), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i've heard the new scarface and the ugk guys one where they do the coin dropping and the 'you know who we talking about' and do the 'in da club' thing with 'it's your worst day / run and tell somebody, it's your worst day.' it doesn't seem very cutting, though.

d k (d k), Thursday, 8 May 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

It might be "They Shootin'" but it came as the last track in the set of back&forth I heard and I thought they were chronological -- can't check right now. Its the one where they call 50 target practice, etc. the ugk one is pretty lame tho, yeah.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 9 May 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

oy! its benzino that i heard -- "fallen down". :-(

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 12 May 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Its a publicity scam. Theres no hatred there. 50 Cent and Ja Rule take turns being each others bitch. You heard it here first.

Lord Custos Enquirer (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 12 May 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm scared of the whole murder inc crew be careful eminem and 50!

*hides*

Eve, Monday, 12 May 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i was watching diary of ja rule on the weekend and he loves his kids and he has a wife and stuff and he's kind of goofy and stuff and then he's shouting 'fuck these faggots' and talking about shooting people. and it seems like it might not be real. but they shoot each other and steal each other's chains and stuff and it's a bit real.

the real part makes it a bit sad because it shouldn't be real anymore. they should just be joking but it's true. they're very rich and they don't have to attack each other.

i like benzino vs. eminem because it was kind of about something.

but 50 cent vs. ja rule is just silly. you could make a joke saying thing about another lots-of-records-selling person recording a track against another lots-of-records person. ('IT'S LIKE FLEETWOOD MAC RECORDING A CELINE DION DISS!!!!!!!!!!! THEY R BOTH JUST POP GAYS WHO SING WIT GURLZ!!!!!!!!! JA RULE IS A 100% QUEER AND 50 CENT IS GAY!!!!!' but it's a bit more than that. because it's real. but it shouldn't be real! so, i don't know.

d k (d k), Monday, 12 May 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

ja in xxl talking about attacking 50 at whatever the recording studio is and hitting him with a bat and stuff------- it's a totally weird thing. stuff like that. they live in a weird world.

d k (d k), Monday, 12 May 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
e crunk comes thru with the best line yet on spizzazz:

the back and forths with ja rule are all on the 'completely impenetrable argument with your girlf/boyf which you foolishly try to explain to your friends like it made any fucking sense in the first place' tip. busta, why the fuck are you even involved?!

The Farrakhan-Ja "peace summit" was one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

Sym (shmuel), Friday, 26 March 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ja Rule wants to be like 2Pac, dont you see him jumping at Dmx,50,Jay,Eminem,Busta,G-Unit all at the same time? Does'nt that sound like 2Pac? When 2Pac was jumping at Biggie,Jay-z,Obie all at the same time.Look at him he wears a bandana with a bald head and a nose ring. Who does that look like? Ja Rule is not a murderer and he should not talk like one. I think he is a cool rapper and all but he needs to be himself and stop trying to battle 50 because he will lose. 50 is a thug that has no life, so he can say all of those things.

Shamar, Friday, 26 March 2004 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

To theodore fogelsanger Nas did come back with Ether then Jay-Z immediately came back with Super Ugly which was aiiight, but no match to Ether. With Ether Nas took it back to Illmatic, which makes me give the win to Nas, but it was fun to see them go at. They still have beef but decided to stop da battling before it got too serious, but I heard from a very reliable source that Jay admits he went over the line spitting about his babies mom. They don't talk and Jay said on HOT97 "I don't think I'll ever talk to the dude again."

HAHAHA You people are funny. When da hell did he wear a noise ring and when did he sound like pac he sounds more like DMX than anything, but thats what happens when u smoke 2 packs of newports a day. You guys have no idea what's the word on Jamaica, Queens. All these katz come from da same area. Everyone saying that Ja a bitch and all dat shit yea sings with Ashanti on some lame ass tracks, but hit da streetz and he'll let you know whats up he still comes through. Ja and 50 will scrap at anything. Now 50 on da street he's a fuckin gangsta he's scared of no man; while Ja and Jay-Z were selling Coke and Crack..50 was selling guns and drugs out of his car. 50 is scared of no man, but then who should be scared when a nigga been shot 9 times...homie thinks he's an invincible, but wasn't so invincible when Blackchild stabbed him in da studio. They don't like each other its obvious. Ja wanted to squash da beef which was completely stupid cuz it made his ass look like a bitch, but u gota feel where he coming from homie is becoming a family man he's got kids. While 50 ain't got no one to worry about he's his own man he got guns everywhere a bomb proof car homie knows he's a target, but he's smart he's ready for what ever comes 50 admits he's got a lot of enemies. I give it to 50 he completely shut Ja out he did da job. 50 is a smart cat he knew he needed to get attention came out with how to rob ragged on about everybody ppl remembered his name and then got shot which made him glorify gangsta rap to da fullest and den came at Ja who was da biggest artist at da time, which was genius of 50. But Y'all gotta remember this though Ja is partners with probably the most feared man in hip hop and I ain't talking about fat ass Irv Gotti...lol...but Suge Knight in da west coast he's still holding it down. I doubt 50 will do anything deadly to Ja cuz why would someone kill there rival just stupid 50 need Ja to feed, but if there was ever a true fist fight 50 would whoop his ass.

One day I desided to be a rapper because I think 2-pac and Dre and Snoop are really cool. But nobody wnted to listen to my music, so I thought, hmmm- maby I'l diss those cool guys that actally sell, yeah, then i'l gett on TV. cory, Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Ja's "first off, fuck the snitch and the unit he claims" is an intentional 'Pac homage/bite - by referencing a great 2Pac dis track, he's trying to associate himself with that track (I don't think Biggie ever bit back nearly as hard as he got bit by "Hit 'Em Up"). So, umm, it's not a rip-off: it's an allusion.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, It's bad enough that Ja keeps dissin' Em' and 50, who are much greater artists and much realer than him, but when that nigga starts dissin' Dr Dre, that's enough, who does he think he is? Dr Dre has been in the game for about 20 years. He and his group N.W.A were the ones that started the hole gangsta rap thing that sissie Ja makes his money on. Dre has made some of the greatest gangsta hits ever, pluss he has produced and helped out rap stars like Snoop, Shady, Xzibit, 50, Busta..the list is endless. So who the fuck does he think he is???

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's look at aint-worth-no-50cent

Pro: - Beats from Dre (reason he is polular)
- support from other famous rappers, because he's popular at the moment

Cons: - has no flow
- sounds like he's gonna fall asleep
- keeps talking about getting shot 9 times

Ja Rule:
pro: - became famous be himself
- makes agressive aswell as r&b like songs

cons: - sounds a bit soft sometimes
- Lost some credibility after beef with 50 cent
- is in a beef with to many rappers

If you just look at 50, you see that he didn't do anything himself. He got with Dre, a garanty for becoming popular. He got shot and gets credibility (I don't understand that actually. When 50 wasn't there and Ja released 3:36 everybody loved him and now all of the sudden evrybody wants to diss him..... What's that? And don't start about 50's songs. They have great beats (Dre, of course) but don't say that In Da Club has great raps. Man, my grandma could rap that song!

Sorry for al the 50 lovers here, but I just can't stand the bitch

mac1987, Thursday, 22 April 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

to mac 1987
first off, 50 wos a rapper (signed by jam master jay) long before dre and em' came to the picture. Second, Dre wouldn't work with anybody who didn't have great skills, talent and potential, and specially- wasn't real, show some respect for the doc'. Fuck You

djfzhngroifjg, Thursday, 22 April 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

50Cent doesn't really do it for me. His lyrics are so self-aggrandizing: "Shit, I ain't even got to try to shine" or "When I die, they'll read this and say a genius wrote it." It's boring, and unbelievable. He's not all that bright. Write something wicked-smart that shows your brilliance...instead of just TALKING about how good you are.

50Cent is no Tupac. Tupac didn't brag nearly as much...and when he did brag, he had so much more credibility...it was believable.

50Cent raps like he's trying to convince everyone listening that he's 'all that'. Tupac could show you he was the shit, without having to say "I am the shit".

Just my opinion of course.

^^^^Since posting/browsing this website I actually agree with everything Alex in NYC says in this thread. And this "beef" is why I stopped listening to hip hop from 2005-2010.

However, I'm listening to a greatest hits of Ja Rule after a decade of avoiding everything he put out. As a pop rap artist, Ja Rule is alright. I forgot he was first part of the gritty Def Jam thing before Irv Gotti and Ashanti came into the picture. Part of me wish he stayed "grimy." He, Jay-Z and DMX always made good collaborations together.

As for 50 Cent, it's too bad he is resorted to bitching to deported rappers like Shyne to keep his "credibility" in hip hop.
