How are they? I never got them because I already had 2 seperate box sets. Are they must own or more clutter

they're not very good at all.

there's a charming part at the beginning of a very good performance of "rock & roll" where someone strikes a chord and lou sez "imagine a hundred guitars doing that at once" and prefigs branca by like 15 yrs.

You didn't like them? Call me a slavish fan, but I love it. The sound quality is crap, but you have to know that going in.

I have a silver Aulstralian fan club 3cd box set of bootlegs and early appearances which is wonderful and certainly worth owning. I like it much better than the standard Banana box set

Splendid, you need it my friend. I was a bit trepidatious myself when I learned that the first volume was Yule-era. But it's quite good, as good as Live 1969 or better. I really wanted to hear the Cale era stuff (full-length "Melody Laughter" please!!), and I sure hope it indeed finds the light of day; but this Yule stuff really is top-notch.

The sound quality is SOOOOOO bad it's painful to listen to - couldn't the record company have done something to clean up the tapes? Most of it is very poor bootleg quality but some things work better than others. Far and away the best things on it are 24 minute and 38 minute "Sister Rays", sheer apocalyptic brilliance. The lowpoint has to be the 17 minute "Follow the Leader", one of the few times in listening to the Velvets I've ever been bored out of my skull. Stick to "Live 1969" unless you're some sort of Velvets fanatic.

The best Velvets bootleg from the Cale/Nico era is "Move Back!". Recorded in Ohio Nov. 4th 1966, its one of the few boots I know of that has the Exploding Plastic Inevitable Experience era. Sound quality is suprisinly good, it features Nico, plus half hour versions of "Melody Laughter" and the "Nothing Song".

I finally got that one about 2 years ago - I hope they clean it up and give it an offical release. (I have a ?th generation boot.) ..and if I can believe what I read, I think it's the ONLY known EPI bootleg.

Heard it recently and quite enjoyed it -- damned if I can remember which song, but something on the second disc was just so freaking phenomenal that I had to stop whatever else I was doing and concentrate on it, the band completely rocking the fuck out and not one word of Lou's to be heard. A fine thing.
