Okay here's how it goes, I name two bands and somebody else names the band that is the exact midpoint between them. If band A is a thesis, band B is the antithesis, band C is the synthesis. Or put another way, this is a game to get all of that "wow, [group X] is like [a] meets [b]!!" out of your system.

The person who names the synthesis gets to choose a new band. Then it's up to someone else to find the NEW midpoint, between the new band that's just been named, and the previous synthesis... comments, explanations, diagrams are appreciated, especially for counterintuitive choices, but not necessary.

[Overlaps should be caught by Graham's clever skeem, but in the event of competing sythesis bids, a midpoint will have to be found between the two (or three or four!) candidates.]
