Evan (Evan), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Fearless (and their most underrated?)

I'd say so. Definitely my favorite Floyd recording. I'm not even going bother listing nine others.

paul cox (paul cox), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I picked out 10 and then realized that I could neatly sum everything up with only one:

1. Live At Pompeii

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Corporal Clegg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evan (Evan), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Geir, you really are insane. :)

Joe (Joe), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

"Fearless" is a good tune, and underrated in the sense that it is not well-known relative to other songs, but I've always thought it rather overrated in the sense that when it is mentioned, it always gets unilateral high praise.

Joe (Joe), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Remember a Day
Paintbox
See Emily Play
Arnold Layne
Scarecrow
Bike
Astronomy Domine

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

4. "Dogs"
5. "One of these Days"
6. "Take Up Thy Stethescope & Walk"
7. "Have a Cigar"
8. "Summer `68"
9. "Brain Damage"
10. "The Trial"...if only for its sheer overblownness.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Fearless (and their most underrated?)

NO DOUBT! This song makes me shiver it's so gorgeous. Best use of sample-of-big-screaming-crowd evah. For such a subtle song, it's very intense.

Honestly, my list would probably be the whole of Meddle with "Goodbye Blue Sky" and "Time" thrown in. I think that makes ten, no?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus, "Goodbye Blue Sky" is fuckin' great too, yeah! I'm also quite partial to all of side 1 of Atom Heart Mother, as dated as it sounds.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Not possible. Maybe ten from each era, but ten songs total? If i couldn't do it for the Cure, then there's no way i can POX for the Floyd.

If i must:

"Cirrus Minor" - More
"Astronomy Domine" - Piper at the Gates of Dawn
"Baby Blue Shuffle in D Minor" aka "Country Song" - Zabriske Point
"Let There Be More Light" - Saucerful of Secrets
"Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" - Saucerful
"Jugband Blues" - Saucerful
"Careful with that Axe Eugene" - various live
"One of These Days" - Meddle
"Echoes" - Meddle
"Shine on, You Crazy Diamond" (i-viii) - Wish You Were Here

And i'm still missing a buch. Rats.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Chris B's answer and strongly sympathize with Nickalicious's.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
There weren't enough contributions to this thread so...

1. Astronomy Domine
2. Flaming
3. The Scarecrow
4. Julia Dream
5. Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict
6. Pillow Of Winds
7. Breathe
8. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
9. Dogs
10. Vera

Very close behind: Fearless, The Gnome, Bike, Atom Heart Mother, Brain Damage/Eclipse...ít's cheating a bit to keep listing close behinds though isn't it. Becomes a POXX before too long.

PiersT, Monday, 10 January 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

I neglected Jugband Blues! Matt Maxwell didn't and for that he deserves applause.

Lucifer Sam
Flaming

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 10 January 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

I don't think you even need the token non-Barrett number Stewart!

PiersT, Monday, 10 January 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

As such, long live Barrett.

PiersT, Monday, 10 January 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

I'm usually hard-pressed to remember a token non-Gilmour track. Barrett=twee. Feh.

The photo of them in that vulture article is awesome, first time seeing it. Fearless at 79 though? Pff

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 6 September 2018 19:54 (seven years ago)

Also writer disses Meddle at every turn and says it’s a horribly produced record. Wtf?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 6 September 2018 19:56 (seven years ago)

Wawzenek does a pretty good job with his ranking. There are things one can quibble with, both in the writing and his decision of what to include and exclude - but overall he does a much better job of it than Wyman.

milkshake duck george bernard shaw (rushomancy), Thursday, 6 September 2018 20:12 (seven years ago)

Meddle, Obscured by Clouds and Animals are the ones I play the most at this point.
