Well I don't usually post hype, especially when my friends are involved, but in the case I would be remiss if I didn't. Youngblood's new album officially came out today, but I've been listening to it for the last couple months and it's pretty fucking spectacular. It's on Ozone (Def Jux's sister label)...I don't know if anyone here has heard their last couple, but this is definitely their strongest album even though there are no fancy Kweli or Mike Ladd cameos. The writing, recording, and mc'ing really came together on this one. It's a unique and tight album both for a brass band album and a hip-hop album, I hope some people give it a chance.

i gave the songs on the site a listen. pretty fun. i won't mention *z*m*tl* (heh) but the remind me of a friend's band the Free Radicals from Houston. i couldn't really get into the mc (alert the race police!!!) but he sounded a little too white. the track w/talib is pretty hot.

funny, i was just looking for info about this last night. I have Unlearn, it's pretty nice stuff. do they do a lot of rapping and weird interpolations on this one, or is it just straight nasty brass jams?

It's a lot of rapping, definitely, but there are some great brass band tunes too (Human Nature, the Michael Jackson version this time, came out real nice). The sousaphone feature is just sick, like 9 tracks of sousa.

i just found out that my friend's band, the Free Radicals, played with them in Maddison. funny

Interesting, I checked out that band's site but couldn't get to the mp3s. YBB opened for Ozomatli here too, the bass player from Ozo insisted on having a duel with the sousaphone player and got sliced up. All in good fun of course. :>
