Did anyone see that Paul McCartney concert movie on TV last night?

... and wasn't it simultaneously the most revolting and depressing spectacle you'd ever witnessed? A Nuremberg Rally of Niceness.

I saw wee snatches of it. The whole thing just made me want to never again go to a gig at a venue any larger than our meter cupboard.

... it made me fear for the youth of America.

I find it hard to take a 60 year old bloke with trainers and chestnut hair a la Anita Dobson seriously.

If I were Heather, I'd whip that leg off and batter him senseless. Or back to his senses.....

Well I thought it was bloody brilliant! The drummer was genius, and quite frankly, I'm still bowled over by the quality songs. I thought it was a bit of class - I now have to scrape together a couple of hundred quid to see him at Sheffield - oh, why didn't I get those tickets on teh cheap for London . . .

I went to the Earls Court show on Monday and it was *easily* the best live show I've witnessed this year. I don't deny that Paul can be a bit of a buffoon, but Jesus Christ you people, he wrote some of the best (I'll just say "best", there's no point in expanding the definition) songs ever, which, as a songwriter, is all he should reasonably be expected to do. To hear & see them performed live by the fellow that wrote them is truly an honour, even in an aircraft hangar like Earls Court.
The tv special was a nice bonus which meant that I didn't have to suffer the indignity of buying a ticket from a tout for a 2nd nite.

I know, I know, I'll be going to hell for that one.
But I couldn't resist.
I reckon the good always die young.... how old was Lennon again....?

I switched this on expecting to last 10 minutes because I was ready for bed. I ended up watching the whole thing and enjoying it hugely.
OK, it was hardly revelatory (despite a few innovative touches, esp the drumming as noted). But a really good band and a mind blowing catalogue of great songs (and then you start to think of the ones he could have played but didn't, Penny Lane, We Can Work It Out etc etc etc etc).

I've been guilty of finding Paul's chirpy-nice-bloke persona a bit naff/grating in the past, but at his age he's earned the right not to have to fit my stereotype of what a rock/pop icon should be. Arrogant, right-on, stylish dressers are 10 a penny. Guys who have made the kind of contribution to popular music that he has and have remained fundamentally decent guys despite achieving that level of celebrity are not.

Mr Arf hits the nail on the head.

i caught a moment of it before going to bed the other night, to catch John Cusack jumping up and down in the audience, turning to the camera, and mouthing lyrics at it.

UGH

It was so good, I forewent some of the European QFs on the other channel.

The Macca fans here are spot on, of course. I just wish I'd been there too.
