terre thaemlitz he gushed

i just heard lovebomb.
its another "difficult" disc, coming complete with the usual thaemlitz/mlle pat theoretical baggage.
but track 2: "between empathy and sympathy is time (apartheid" is the most moving piece of "vocal science" (to borrow from matos) i've heard this year. it made me cry.
he takes a very militant speech by an ANC spokeperson and harmonises it to Loving you by Minnie Riperton. The Riperton tune isn't actually there, its just the spokespersons sentences/phrases are made to fit the basic shape of that song. to make an obvious comparison, it sounds like Robert Ashley, or Laurie Anderson.
the rest of the disc (apart from the microhouse trck at the end) is unlistenable.
o fck. i just had to gush about that.

i've got a terre thaemlitz remix of nina simone's "see line woman" and it's great... it's seamless... it sounds as if it was unmanipulated...

I completley agree that this is not only by far the best thing on this disc (which I also am having a hard time getting into) but one of the most incredible tracks I've heard in a long time.

I think this is the first time I've seen Thaemlitz talk on ILM...

I've exchanged e-mails with Terre a few times, he was always a friendly soul. I need that disc of Numan reworkings.

i have the kraftwerk one, it's quite good. didn't even know there was a numan reworking. I met him after a show once and he was very nice and affable then, too, just after playing some of the most intense and political laptop electronics these ears have ever heard.
