i got to bed at 4am the other night cos i got home and put on the radio and it was this genius hiphop DJ mix that i had to force myself to turn off because i needed to get to sleep and wake up before 1pm. (i stopped when he got to mos def, incidentally). anyway, so the dj ("dj waxy") was bleeding mundian to bach ke (this bit is perhaps innessential, though not completely) into 2pac's do for love into some nu-r&b that i didn't recognize (a little jittery, not too much, male singer, beautiful reverby female chorus, about respecting yr woman) into (here's the crucial part) a tribe called quest record (the abstract i think), but for about a minute or so (maybe it just seemed like that) it was just the horn bit of abstract, and i had a moment in love: visions of a city (a big city. new york, say) just before it wakes, blueblack night sky, Romantic, skyscraping synth-noir, as breaktakingly vast as it is unbearably intimate, as if you could feel the pigeons' feet on the phonelines. maybe i should just leave it as a gorgeous memory, but what would you say is the actual song (maybe hiphop, maybe not) that gets closest to capturing whatever the hell i'm talking about?

Example (that's the name of the group) - A Quarter 'Till Two

ask me for an mp3 at my private e-mail address.

Also: Phonte - So Lovely
Omar - Fallin'

I dunno. Everybody's big-city, late nite vibe if different. But I have mix discs for that very purpose.
