Explain this analogy

From the current issue of Record Collector:

"What Nevermind was to grunge,Blood Sugar Sex Magik was to rock,Nevermind the Bollocks was to punk,Korn is to 90's metal."

I can accept 1,3 &4 but when did the Chili Peppers become the archetype of rock?

I'll accept RHCP is to rock, as Korn is to 90's metal. And, separately, the Nevermind/Sex Pistols comparison. But not together.

"What Ed Kuepper's Not a Soul Around EP was to post-punk"...

Reason enough to cancel your subscription to Record Collector.

Genre albums that suddenly found a wider audience?

Still, a faulty analogy- Nevermind, Blood Sugar, Never Mind The... are all albums, while Korn is a group.

Gosh. My first post and I'm nitpicking grammar.

The Chili Peppers are so lame. They stole everything they know from the Big Boys.

How old was the author? It's as if he's never heard of Black Sabbath.

What Hitler was to pacifism, Record Collector is to music journalism

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 25 April 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Rock apparently wasn't a genre prior to 1991.

Brandon Gentry (Brandon Gentry), Friday, 25 April 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Could it be that they are all....

.... believed by many ignorant people to be representative of the entire genre when in fact they are nothing of the sort?

.... the totems that people align themselves with when they're only concerned with the pose of *appearing* to be into that scene rather than actually participating in it?

.... frequently held up as being something new and exciting and revolutionary when in fact they are clearly just tired old regurgitations of stuff that had happened a zillion times before?

I'm not convinced that I've ever actually heard any Korn btw, I'm just making assumptions based on the people I've seen wearing their T-shirts.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 25 April 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess if by "rock" you mean chest-thumping frat-boy anthems . . .

Brandon Gentry (Brandon Gentry), Friday, 25 April 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

...what Smashmouth was to whitey soul patches, Korn is to whitey cornrows.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Friday, 25 April 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't it more like "what Avril Lavigne is to punk, Korn is to 90s metal"?

Siegbran (eofor), Friday, 25 April 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it's "Nevermind" is to grunge as make-up is to Avril Lavigne.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 25 April 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just curious as to what alternate dimensional plane of existence the "journalist" in question dwells within that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are considered so seemingly vital.
