You'll absolutely HATE this.........
TWANBOC

Matthew Ingram, Friday, 25 April 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Its a bit bland even a bit too housey for my liking, its neither dubed out and minimal nor crazy mental so it falls in that kind of no mans land which I don't really like. Good mixing though.

Ed (dali), Friday, 25 April 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

vy the way I am the ultimate in techno rockist.

Ed (dali), Friday, 25 April 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

my soundcard is buggered so i can't listen to this :-(

ps - i love the blog, Matthew... glad u didn't give it up in the end :-)

Robin Goad (rgoad), Friday, 25 April 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i like it
i only had it on in the background though,i'll report back when i give it a proper listen
the blog is great too, although i thought it was better before the "influence" of heronbone started to show
(heronbone is probably the best blog at the moment, but there's no point trying to appropriate the style, which seems to be happening a bit lately...)
still,its always a good read,nice work...
i'd like to hear more mixes,btw...

robin (robin), Friday, 25 April 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

re:heronbone

i quite agree, my site is a very poor shadow of luke's.
ive been desperatly trying to copy luke's moves...but i just dont have his panache.

as i say, yeah my stuff was much better in the old days, the early work, its basically really boring now. pretty hollow and uninspired.

I'm really glad everyone hated it as much as I did, i thought it was a really pointless bit of rubbish.

zzzz

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 25 April 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't be so hard on yourself, Matthew. I enjoyed your old blog stuff. I downloaded the mix but haven't listened to it yet.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Friday, 25 April 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

(creeps out of room to avoid waking jess)

Matthew Ingram, Friday, 25 April 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

hey what the fu ck was that sub-NME j-lo rant about

Chip Morningstar (bob), Friday, 25 April 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

hey thats not what i meant-i do enjoy the blog, its usually interesting and well written, and you obviously have a very wide ranging knowledge of music, its just that occasionally the luke-isms are a bit excessive...relax though, don't take mild criticism to be damning condemnation, its still on of the few blogs i check every day...

robin (robin), Friday, 25 April 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

downloading it now!

gareth (gareth), Friday, 25 April 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(actually it's quite good; and thanks for including the new horizons track)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 25 April 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Even my brother told me I was being a bit boring re:Luke (me old mucker god bless him the genius) but ask Luke and he'd swear blind that I've never copied his shit. (Don't let me down fingers crossed).............

If you do a blog i guess you have to do your own thing...you know stand firm, eyes ahead and all that.............but having friends online is exiting, like having a crew (for saddos), and its quite nice to get caught up in other peoples orbit sometimes.

ILM is really scary. Love you all though.

Matthew Ingram, Friday, 25 April 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i dunno,on the one hand, its enjoyable reading a group of blogs with interesting, knowledgeable people engaging in some sort of dialogue, and if you're involved in that obviously you're going to be influenced by each other, its just that i think your own style was good in itself, and there's no need to try and emulate others...
my comment was meant more as encouragement to stick with your own style than a diss of your current one..

robin (robin), Friday, 25 April 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for putting me straight Robin.

It's nice to know you care.

Matthew Ingram, Friday, 25 April 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha thanks to Ingram I now have Phew and Biomutanten!
keep it up U rocker

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 26 April 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Although only able to hear this in my head as opposed to IRL the mix looks great - "Reasons To Be Dismal" is an especially classy choice, always loved that track.

Ha ha and sometimes I wish I was interesting enough to bite styles more regularly or purposefully. Biting blog styles is only really feasible in the first year of blogging maybe, that inital flush of enthusiasm.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 26 April 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, and Luka doesn't have your cover art flair or organization skillz
just freeform florid nineteenth century descriptive seasoninhell prosepoems
joe king luv him 2 just the same
thanks to both for being prolific
let me know when you lot want to go get blethered

listening to the mix now it's GRATE!

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 26 April 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

speaking of appropriation I'm going to nick some moves off this mix
hope ya don't mind, like

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 26 April 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Agreed about Reasons To Be Dismal yeah, I love all his stuff anyway.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 26 April 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

listening to this again, its a really good mix

robin (robin), Monday, 28 April 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

love it! love twanboc (& heronbone)!
And thanks for the hiphop LPs list - I bought Daily Operation and can't stop listening to it. Can't wait to get the rest

Keith McD (Keith McD), Monday, 28 April 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Matthew's blog is way better than luka's. Extended off the wrist prose poetry doesn't do it for me.

paul.meme, Thursday, 1 May 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
More love for this mix please.

I should note that my comments above make it look like I was agreeing that Matthew bites Luka's style - but actually I can't see the resemblance at all (Heronbone isn't nearly as aggressive for one! But seriously TWANBOC is the one in my top ten visit list).

What is good about the blogging world at the mo' is that everyone knows there's a million 'n' one blogs out there so the bloggers that aspire to anything know they've got to develop an in-house style. You don't remember the blog if you don't remember its "voice". It takes a lot of effort to establish a voice though (and that includes accumulating shards of other voices into something distinct and original) and I wish I put more effort into it myself.
