...So sez my radio station.

What are we to make of this?

I blame the war.
And hstencil. The dangerous trend that is hstencil.

Doesn't this depend on your definition of "pop" anyway?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 25 April 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Geir ppl who use abstract terms without bothering to define them are pretty fuckin' tiresome AREN'T THEY

dave q, Friday, 25 April 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh dave q, you're like a bitter yet comforting cup of coffee drunk at the crack of dawn.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 25 April 2003 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

coffee's really good when you're drunk at the crack of dawn...

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 25 April 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

My point exactly, Jody. And Dave's posts are at their most effective when they come early in a thread. yay for Dave Q.

But Geir, that was my point - hence the parentheses.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Friday, 25 April 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. Quotes.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 25 April 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Or "quotation marks", to be really pedantic.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 25 April 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that it was my unlikely purchase of a Coal Chamber album that finally tipped the balance in "rock's" favour.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 25 April 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

doesn't selling a lot of albums automatically make something "pop" as in popular, as in enjoyed by many?
maybe it's because that hacker busted into Madonna's website and put up all her songs for free.

Actually, in all seriousness, I can see this becoming the norm as file-sharing continues to grow (relatively) unchecked.
In the spirit of gross generalizations that this thread was started in: Rock fans, or rockists, feel a certain amount of loyalty to artists, while pop fans, or suckers, mainly are beholden only to a particular song.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 25 April 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi Horace!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 25 April 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw the Doobie Brothers last night.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 25 April 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you pay for it?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 25 April 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame Busted. For everything.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 25 April 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I scream, you scream, we all scream for commercial viability.
