it's a bit of a stretch to call felix and fischerspooner "funk" whatever about "punk". both together is a plasticman style stretch.

have two obviously different types of music been given the same pidgeonhole name before?

i remember people referring to eyehategod/melvins/floor as 'slowcore' at one point. then that sad-bastard music like low somehow got called that.

No wave is about a lack of care about the audience, and a hatred of melody (sorry Geir).

James Chance and the Flaming Demonics. I think. I don't know, I'm out of the loop.

All good ones there.. Given these precedents I suppose it's fair enough for the NME (or whoever) to use any name they like for a type of music even if it's been used before.

Whoever wrote that bit on the kickin music website though has a lot to answer for in terms of knowing what the fuck they are talking about.....

One thing is certain about no wave. Dennis Wilson didn't like it. Surfing is impossible when there are no waves.

nine years pass...

cool no wave thread

i'm reading the thurston/byron coley book abt new wave, really interesting. so many amazing photos

listening to theoretical girls, kinda sucks they were left off of no new york. they are so much more of a "rock band" than i would have expected...but great stuff. that said it's weird not entirely different than some early devo or wire or whatever, but the book doesn't seem to acknowledge any influences outside of the little scene itself
