what's the best song you've ever heard blared over the loudspeakers at a major sporting event?

At "my" baseball team (the White Sox)'s stadium, the best they've been able to do is bits of "Blitzkrieg Bop," but never the whole song -- only the "hey, ho! Let's go!" part to rev up the crowd. Also the "Let's do it" from Tone Loc's "Wild Thing." So, yeah, slim pickings at US Cellular Field.

And you?

that Gary Glitter tune, and that Queen song. From the Flach Gordon Soundtrack.

The Pixies - "Here Comes Your Man" over the loudspeaker at the Baltimore Orioles/Cleveland Indians baseball game earlier this season (when one of Baltimore's relief pitchers warmed up. Y'know, "Here Comes Your Man." GET IT!?!?!?).

"Vaalerenga Kjerke" by Randulf & Klanen.

Probably doesn't make much sense for any of you others though. :-)

Bizarre Inc - "I'm Gonna Get You"

"Into the valley" by the Skids at Charlton v Man City. Not the best song, but it felt right at the time.

At least one exception here :)

At Sixfields Stadium, my team now come out to that oft-overlooked Robert Johnson classic, "Useless Bunch of Overpaid Cunts Who Have All The Drive and Energy of A Fucking Olive, And Don't Even Deserve To Wear The Damn Shirts"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 27 April 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

They play Geno all the time down the Villa.

Ferg (Ferg), Sunday, 27 April 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Not necessarily rare, but still a bit strange - "Ante Up".

My real answer is when I once sang (not me alone; that would be scary) the National Anthem at a Knicks game.

smash mouth "allstar"

Faith No More's "Be Aggressive" is on one of the JOCK JAMS comps!

BBT - Back when US Cellular-to-hell-you-are was Comiskey, and the Sox had Ray-Ray Durham, they used play Master P as his intro music. I miss that.

Plus if you're attending Sox games, you should really talk about the wonder at the organ that is Ms. Nancy Faust (is it Nancy? I always forget her first name - maybe it's Marilyn).

It's a metaphor, they weren't really talking about blow jobs.
It's about ice cream. Or something.

mei (mei), Monday, 28 April 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard them playing Epic last night at the Ottawa game.

jm (jtm), Monday, 28 April 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah really Nick, I can't believe you didn't know it was about aggressively eating ice cream! ;)

original bgm, Monday, 28 April 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
uh yeah, it's about ice cream. I know I talk about ejaculate and seed and spitting out when i talk about cookies'n'cream

There's nothing better than being at Yankee Stadium and hearing the riff of "Black betty" blare through the speakers.

Brian O'Neill (NYCNative), Friday, 28 April 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

If you can write a perennial stadium-rouser you are set for life. Zombie Nation is going to retire in style just from sports alone.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 28 April 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

ejaculate is the technical term for getting ice cream out of the machine

andrew b (klik99), Friday, 28 April 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

thirteen years pass...

Was watching an Orioles game with my father-in-law yesterday and in between at-bats or innings or something, they started playing Siouxsie Cities in Dust. Is that normal for baseball these days?

☮ (peace, man), Monday, 17 June 2019 17:04 (six years ago)

that's pretty great, have never heard anything comparably good.

they used to play a late period mogwai song at half time at celtic park about 8 years ago

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 17 June 2019 18:38 (six years ago)

I was at Orioles Park Saturday night, we just got Nick Lowe “Cruel to be Kind”. The folks picking music there seem real into late 70s , early 80s new wave & crossover punk

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 18 June 2019 15:16 (six years ago)

Oh, here's an article about their DJ from 2013! I guess it is normal for Oriole Park.

Liquidator by the Harry J All Stars at Stamford Bridge. They also played Hold Me by Eris Drew in a nearby Chelsea pub when I was down for a game last month
