What is the most badass song eva?

I say it is "The Immigrant Song". Anyone can talk about violence and anger, but really you can't fuck with someone who says they are your overlord.

I am making a mixtape off the basis of being badass, so suggestions are what this thread is about.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Voodoo Child (Slight Return). He's going to chop down a mountain with his hand! How much more baddass can you get?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"Search and Destroy" obv.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"gangsta, gangsta"

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

matter of fact, just about anything on straight outta compton will do.

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:14 (twenty-two years ago)

sweet sweetback's

ron (ron), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

zappa's "titties and beer" -- FZ as a badass biker who sells his soul to Satan for titties and beer! how much more of a bad motherfucker can you be?

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

"wichita lineman"

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Lucretia McEvil" by Blood Sweat & Tears

Arthur (Arthur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:21 (twenty-two years ago)

ll cool j's "walking with a panther" -- he's so bad, he can suck his own dick!

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:21 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i think "mama said knock you out" would also be a good choice here.

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Danger Zone

Steppenwolf is probably right up there, so Born To Be Wild.

matter of fact, just about anything on straight outta compton will do.

And also anything off The Chronic will do in a pinch...

jm (jtm), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

but really you can't fuck with someone who says they are your overlord.

Yes you can. Cuz really they're fifteen and they work at Spencer's Gifts.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, JBR... wow.

jm (jtm), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The Chronic is a little too "regular badass" for what I'm trying to achieve here, though.

You're very clever, JBR, we are all impressed.

What's everyone's opinion on "Breaking the Law"? I think it's played out.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Agreed.

Angel of Death, on the other hand...

jm (jtm), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

but what's the distinction between "regular badass" and the sorta badass thing yer looking for, Ally?

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i.e,, how about motorhead's "ace of spades"?

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably something to do with the difference between a Fully-Inflated Dark Lord and Gats 'n' Stuff.

jm (jtm), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, see, vikings are like extreme ridiculous badass, whereas driving around doing drugs and being laid back is pretty badass, but more in a regular everyday sort of fashion. Which is why "Breaking the Law" probably doesn't work out anyway, because, while it sounds insane, it's really just as mundane as your "Gin & Juice"s of the world.

I want like over the top badass. Vikings, Satan, serial killers, that sort of thing. But I'm willing to accept some regular badass if you explain yr choice.

I'm not really sure what the purpose of this is going to be in the end but it seems really good in my head.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe she's just looking for a little more metaphor. Overlords and street walking cheetas, not just regular people who are scary.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm OTM. :-)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

how about whatever song this guy would sing ...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/475000/images/_476425_riots150.jpg

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, see, vikings are like extreme ridiculous badass ...

i got it! yngwie malmsteen's "i am a viking"!

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

as fer serial murderers, i think slayer's "dead skin mask" is a good pick

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, the guy's name is "Yngwie", why didn't I think of that? That's fucking badass without even singing anything.

Kenan is definitely OTM. For example, Queen's "Princes of the Universe". THEY ARE IMMORTAL!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

queen's "ogre battle"

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"Iron Man" (?)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Iron Man" is pretty badass. I should put on the Cardigans version of it, that'd be really ridiculous.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm standing behind zappa's "titties and beer." but here's a link to its lyrics so ally can judge for herself whether it's bad-ass/ridiculous enough for her mixtape.

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

It's an epic, which is nice.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

there's also this song by the rolling stones. i think it has the right ratio of badass-to-ridiculousness that ally is looking for (dave q. gave it his "special comedy award").

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

how bout "Sympathy For the Devil"?

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Sunday, 27 April 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

No.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"all hail the black market" - Archers of Loaf

"mudkicker" - Skid Row

"cold and ugly" - Tool

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 April 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Cradle of Filth are quite badass, in a comedic decadent way.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 April 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Once again, what we're looking for here is big-ass riffs combined with lyrics that say something along the lines of "I RULE ALL OF MIDDLE EARTH!!!"

So try again.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, cradle of filth!

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 April 2003 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

'Badass'est song EVAH="wriggle like a fucking eel" by Whitehouse.

rexJr., Sunday, 27 April 2003 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

or Slayer - Blood Red

"Peaceful confrontation meet war machine
Seizing all civil liberties
Honest ballotation among banshee
Spilling blood throughout humanity
You cannot hide the face of death
Oppression ruled by bloodshed
No disguise can deface evil
The massacre of innocent people"

That's pretty middle-earth!

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 April 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I should note that this is the only song i'v heard by Whitehouse that doesn't actually suck bad.

rexJr., Sunday, 27 April 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Slayer - Blood Red

That's pretty middle-earth!

Jesus H. Christ. What version of Lord of the Rings did you read? That's nutjob faux-political death-fetishizing metal shitty bloody bullshit.

Try again.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I only seen the film! :)

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 April 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bad" by Michael Jackson.

maria b (maria b), Sunday, 27 April 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

La Rock by Vitalic owns this thread like the gigantic dancefloor death machine that it is. I cooked dinner for my mum yesterday and tried to play it but it wasn't getting through to her, she said turn it off.

ROCK AND ROLL.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Mannish Boy - Muddy Waters

Still makes me strut down the street and I'm really not very badass at all

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Sunday, 27 April 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"She" by the Misfits

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 27 April 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not even sure if most of the vocals on Gogoroth's "Projetens Upenbaring" even have actual lyrics, but they're done in badass viking chant style. Very over-the-top.

I'll second most any NWA and I think Biggie's "Warning" deserves a spot too.

original bgm, Sunday, 27 April 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

the Kid 606 remix of "Straight Outta Compton"

Johnny Cash - "Folsom Prison Blues"

Evan (Evan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

how about hanle y's "final fight"? it's all about some guys out kickin' some ass ... and hagar's head being bigger than his shoulders!

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"Hobbit Motherfuckers" doesn't really count, it's just the boys dissing on indie kids. That's not so much badass as it is easy target.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Darkthrone Quintessence:

eight miles deep the well forgotten by mortals
oh, i drank it empty in one single sip
eight miles wide the valley beyond all hope
oh, i filled the whole with one single fist
five million christians on a ride towards us
oh, i slaughtered the bunch with one single hit (with my spear)
five million women so alone in the night
oh, i had them all satisfied profusely (every night by myself)
ten thousand trolls hard as rock cold as ice
oh, they ran when i rose to face them
ten hungry waves they swallowed my ship
oh, i steadily walked home (and i only got wet on my feet)
no single book were behelden by me
oh, no question i cannot do answer
only one single lamp do show me this way
and that is the eye of satan

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

How about the first short song off of Rancid's last (return to hard shit) record. "Don Giovanni." The Track ends with Tim Armstrong screaming, "...so don't fuck with me kid!"

theodore fogelsanger, Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

My love for you is like a truck, Berserker
Would you like some making fuck, Berserker
My love for you is like a rock, Berserker

buttch (Oops), Sunday, 27 April 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

"God of Thunder" by Kiss, "Supernaut" by Black Sabbath, "Feel Good" by Cop Shoot Cop (....got a shotgun in my back-seat, get in my way, Man, yer dead meat!), "Stagger Lee" by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 27 April 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

sonically, let's not forget The Swans or The Mover either

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 27 April 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa...... SWANS own this thread.

maria b (maria b), Sunday, 27 April 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a rolling thunder, a pouring rain
I'm comin' on like a hurricane
My lightning's flashing across the sky
You're only young but you're gonna die

I won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives
Nobody's putting up a fight
I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Satan get you

Hell's Bells
Yeah, Hell's Bells
You got me ringing Hell's Bells
My temperature's high, Hell's Bells

I'll give you black sensations up and down your spine
If you're into evil you're a friend of mine
See my white light flashing as I split the night
'Cause if good's on the left, ['cause if God's on the left]
then I'm stickin' to the right

I won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives
Nobody's puttin' up a fight
I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Satan get you

Hell's Bells, Satan's comin' to you
Hell's Bells, he's ringing them now
Hell's Bells, the temperature's high
Hell's Bells, across the sky
Hell's Bells, they're takin' you down
Hell's Bells, they're draggin' you around
Hell's Bells, gonna split the night
Hell's Bells, there's no way to fight, yeah

Ow, ow, ow, ow

Hell's Bells

jm (jtm), Sunday, 27 April 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"12" by Insane Clown Posse! An evil gangsta-clown comes back to life after execution to murder the jurors who sentenced him to the chair!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 27 April 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

"bad reputation", thin lizzy.

mosurock (mosurock), Sunday, 27 April 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"bad reputation," Joan Jett

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 27 April 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck it, Graveland should be all over that mixtape. Broken english rants about revenge, honour, death and the bloody glory of the battlefield:

The frost tries to reach us,
with its cruel cold hands
the cold witheness hurts our eyes
and we still march with wind in the face.
We follow the trace of blood in the snow
Yesterday we burnt two villages
We killed women and children
Heads out of the bodies of priests
We impaled on our wooden stakes...

The blood of hideous monk
is still getting blacker on my axe
Their temple burnt.
And we fed a fire with their corpses
My brothers are marching silently
The great frost turns the hearts to ice
The warm blood will bring the life back
to their bodies...

Another christian village is near...
those who escaped showed us the way...
by the blood from their wounds...
we must deal them a deathblow
before wolves get them
On the horizon behind us
The black smoke appears on the sky
On the hills, full of trees
Wolves observe us
They'll leave the hills and follow us
as soon as the day is over...

etc etc, song after song, album after album...

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 27 April 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Once, my mom called me, played "Bad Reputation" on the phone to me, and then hung up. I called her back and asked her why, and she said it reminded her of me, and told me not to call and question her about it any more. it was so bizarre.

Dan, I was so afraid you'd bring up ICP.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"problem child" 'd be a better ACDC shot than "hells bells"...."what i want i take what i don't i break/& i don't want you!" ha ha that always kills me.

duane, Sunday, 27 April 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Absu: "Highland Tyrant Attack"

Hey, it fulfills all of the requirements. Dead clowns crushing people's heads = BAD ASS.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 27 April 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

That guy on the "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" video is getting some bad ass

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 27 April 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

No, you're right, Dan, it does fulfill my requirements. EXCEPT THAT IT IS IRREVOKABLY AWFUL!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

EVERYONE ESPECIALLY KENAN: THE SONGS DO NOT HAVE TO BE ABOUT HOBBITS AND HONESTLY I'D PREFER IT IF THEY WEREN'T

I didn't say that. Never did I say that. It's not my fault that no one around here understands anything I say. It's theirs. mumblemumble...Yeah, that must be it...mumblemumble

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 27 April 2003 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Gimme the Prize by Queen:

- I know his name

Here I am, I'm the master of your destiny, ha haa
I am the one, the only one, I am the God of kingdom come
Gimme the prize, just gimme the prize
Give me your kings, let me squeeze them in my hands, hey hey hey
Your puny princes
Your so-called leaders of your land
I'll eat them whole before I'm done
The battle's fought and the game is won
I am the one the only one
I am the God of kingdom come
Gimme the prize, just gimme the prize
- The prize

- Ha ha ha ha ha ha
- Ha ha ha ha ha ha
- Now you die
- Ha ha ha ha ha ha
- I have something to say - it's better to burn out than to fade away
- Heeargh
- There can be only one
- Eeaaoooor

Move over, I said move over
Hey, hey, hey clear the way
There's no escape from my authority - mmm, I tell you
I am the one, the only one, I am the God of kingdom come
Gimme the prize
- The prize
Just gimme the prize
- The prize
I am the one the only one
I am the God of kingdom come
Just gimme the prize
- There can be only one -
- Heeaarghh
Hah

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 28 April 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm.. Studying that lyric closer, it almost sounds like something the Iraqi information minister could have come up with. :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 28 April 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

People, please. The fact that a day has gone by with nary a mention of Isaac Hayes proves that some aspects of badassitude should really be reiterated every so often. To wit:

THERE'S SOME DUDES IN A BAR WITH BUSTED HEADS AND BROKEN JAWS
WHO HIT THEM?
TRUCK TURNER!

THERE'S SOME PIMPS IN THEIR GRAVES
WHO BLEW THOSE PIMPS AWAY?
TRUCK TURNER!

Vikings fear Truck motherfucking Turner.

(Tracer did you go see L.A. Drugs? I hear they're good, couldn't make it)

hstencil, Monday, 28 April 2003 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

most Chuck Prophet's The Hurting Business album

eg. "I'd like to get Lucky...get my fingers 'round his throat/tie him up in rusty chains and see if he can float" from "Lucky"

"I am the shore patrol!" from "Shore Patrol" I know the coast guard doesn't sound too badass, but you should hear the way Chuck asserts himself on this part. He really drags out the AM.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 28 April 2003 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that really the name of a Belle and Sebastian song?

Tracer, yes it is. Make whatever comments you feel are appropriate.

So Ally, are you gonna include "Titties and Beer" on yer mixtape or not? Is it bad-ass enough for ya!?!?

"From Home," the Troggs. But that's serious, not a joke.

bedroom, Monday, 28 April 2003 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

How about Killah Priest:

"Black posse, clap guns at the anarchy
White man in the van watch me
Video cams is in the lobby
We change skin tones like chameleons so they can't spot me
Runnin out the buildin, cops shot me
I played dead on the ground like you cowards got me
Until I heard the engine of my man's Kawasaki
I raised off the ground mad cocky
He shot past it and snatched my body
We cocked a shottie, popped three at the swat team
The black helicopters swoopin down, flashin
Thousand volt watt beams, watchin on TV screens
Streets are flooded by the Neo-Nazis
That's when Gabriel gave me shells
Then I load my automatic and I blaze the world
Fuck this world and everything in it
I ain't gonna stop until my job is finished
And my words are infinite
My life is governed by a higher force
Sometimes I think I'll end up like Christ and die on a cross
The sacrifice, close my eyes and the fire come forth
Start spazzin then I blackout, I'm grabbin my Mac
Clap at the dragon, the beast, that paddin my streets
It's organized in the hood where we gaggin police
I wake up stabbin my sheets, see the monster grabbin my feet
Pullin me beneath, havin a head like Bill Gates
With a mouth full of platinum teeth
Imagine my grief, I'm gaspin, blastin my heat."

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 28 April 2003 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Willie D. - "Fuck Rodney KIng" to thread:

Fuck Rodney King in his ass
When I see that mothafucka I'ma blast
Boom in his head, boom, boom in his back just like that
Cause I'm tired of you good little niggas
Saying increase the peace and let the violence cease
When the black man built this country
But can't get his for the prejudiced honky
Rodney King, god damn sell-out
On TV crying for a cop
The same mothafuckas who beat the hell outcha
Now I wish they would've shotcha
Cause this shit is deeper than Vietnam
And ain't no room for the Uncle Tom
Let the white man dress you up and mess you up
I wouldn't be suprised if he sexed you up
Cause you look like a gay
Letting them white folks tell you what to say
But I'm glad that niggas stayed out of check
Cause that's the only thing rednecks respect
We don't want your welfare checks
Nigga need a real job to buy a rolex
And until we get it, we gonna keep throwing them things
Fuck Rodney King!

Fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em
Fuck that nigga!
Fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em

Time for the Negro National Anthem:
"We shall overcome...we shall overcome..."

Fuck all that singing
I'ma be too busy swinging
That's the problem with the black folks
Always wanna bust a note
And hold hands and form rallies
And down niggas for fighting back in Cali
I'm down with the niggas who's nexting
Fuck all that god damn protesting
So don't try to pull it
5th Ward niggas fight bullets with bullets
Right between the eyes
So you can keep your mothafucking Noble Peace Prize
I said fuck Rodney King and I mean it
And any mothafucka out there who resent it
Cause didn't nobody set a fire for Willie D
When the laws beat the fuck out of me
Fuck Rodney King!

Fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em
Fuck that nigga!

Fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em, fuck'em
Fuck that nigga!

Fuck that mothafucking sell-out hoe
They need to beat his ass some mo'
Fool talking about stop the violence
When niggas can't even shit in silence
I can't ride up the street with my homies without 5-0 all on me
Riding my tailgate and running my god damn license plate
Sweating Willie D since I'm a minority
They fuck with me, I still got a lot of grudges
It's high time that we take out some judges
And some congressmen and senators who cheat us
And all of these so called black leaders
Like Craig Washington, nigga sound dense
Trying to play both sides of the fence
Brown nosing cause he was chosen
By the whites to make niggas act right
You can't lead the black struggle
And be friends with the enemy, mothafucka
While you trying to keep your fucking job
Black folks getting robbed
But when it's time for the revolution
I'ma click, click, click, fuck this rap shit
Cause money ain't shit but a grief
