!K7's 'Season's Greetings 2002' mix

So i realised this innocuous-seeming promo disc had been sitting in my discarded singles-for-review pile for, like, ages, chucked it into my discman and discovered that in fact it's a fantastic mix of all sorts of stuff - lots of arsequaking electro and house, DJ Shadow, a gorgeous Radiohead track about a boy who stays inside his house all the time and baby alligators etc., LCD Soundsystem, a thoroughly awesome and foreboding microhouse track that I can only assume is by Superpitcher, Depeche Mode, weird eighties-ish ambient pop... Does anyone else have this? Or a tracklisting?

Also, apparently it's mixed by DJ Kaos and Ghost Cauldron - who are these guys?

Anyway, if you see it floating around, be sure to pick it up.

Not heard this mix but I can imagine it's great - !K7 are on a roll right now.

Kaos is a member of (Turntable) Terranova; Ghost Cauldron is his newest project and the album's fucking amazing - I just got handed it seemingly at random and it's blown my head off in a "Blimey, it's right up there with The Private Press and Deadringer and Presidential Suite and just as mental" kinda way.

Oh yeah, album's called Invent Modest Fires - I interviewed Kaos a couple of weeks ago and bloody hell he's unshutuppable...

terranova are so boring! their dj kicks album was ok but their own stuff sends me into a coma. also apparently they are total po-faced knobs.

Mmm, I have the promo for the Ghost Cauldron album and it doens't make any sense at all (okay, after one spin).

That mix sounds pretty good though.

The best post-disco/pre-house track evah!

frankie knuckles - your love - trax

The best house track evah!

Andy K (Andy K), Monday, 28 April 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

agreed on both.

Chicken Lips are pretty cool, that track is a great one too. Not in same league as above but nice. Has anyone got the new Output recordings cd? I might start a thread. That acid house track by DK7 or someone is fucking amazing.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The mix is great, even the Blur track! "More Heroin" is an improvement even over "Heroin" - may be Superpitcher's best methadone track ever, and his best track ever after "Tomorrow". The organs! The acid! The impending gloom and drama of it all!

And Blackstrobe's "Narcodancer" is the most heart-clutchingly effective electro I've heard this year outside the Ewan Pearson mix of Freeform Five's "Perspex Sex".

I thought the Terranova album (which I listened to twice or thrice) was flawed but interesting - like, it was nice to see them getting on the dancehall train good and early, and some of the stuff on there was nicely dark and melodramatic, but at the same time some of the choruses and beats were a bit big beat-ish in the wrong sort of way. Still, maybe it's like a Soulwax/2 Many DJs thing - better choon selectors than creators.

Oh yeah and is that Radiohead track on the new album or a b-side or something? It's brilliant - very Disco Inferno making nighttime lullabye sorta.

Tim Finney in wrong for the first time evah silkk the shockah!

Unfortunately the mix of "Dirty Talk" is the vocal version -- which is inferior to the insturmental. Oh well.

Andy K (Andy K), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay I'll elaborate: I like "More Heroin" less than the original 'cause it doesn't resemble a remix that improves on "The Order of Death" as much.

Andy K (Andy K), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

the radiohead track's an amnesiac-era b-side.

whereabouts on the k7! website is it? and is there any chance of someone sharing mp3s of this on slsk?!

Ha ha well Andy I reserve the right to refute my pronouncement as I
I've heard "Heroin" about ten billion times and "More Heroin" twice, so this might be a hot young broad versus wife kinda thing.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Toby, you've got a top-5 of mixes on the first page and a link to 'find out the top ten and more'...just folow that. 'More Heroin' is great but not as great as 'Grace'.

'Your Love' being the 5th greatest house track or so (always reminds me of Bowie), 'French Kiss' of course first, always. :)
