Melody Maker (in the late 80's) took a break from putting The Young Gods, Front 242 and Skinny Puppy on the front and plumped for Tinita Tikaram instead!!!!!!

Kim Tortoise, Monday, 28 April 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Magnet had Tom Petty on their most recent Yr in Rvw cover

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Hip Hop Connection having Oxide and Neutrino on the cover. There were one or two letters to the editor about that.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Most surprising *Spin* cover-artist ever: Latin freestyle diva Safire, in '87 or so.

chuck, Monday, 28 April 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Natalie Imbruglia on Spin was pretty silly.

Fivvy (Fivvy), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

First anniversary of Spin, which was supposedly alt/indie in its early stages - Diamond Dave on the cover... A lot of us were irritated by that one ...

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the last four years of RS.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The Spice Girls on the cover of 90 Minutes, circa Christmas 1996.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Beck is on the cover of YM or 17 or something right now (or last week).

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

on muzik's anniversary they showed this one
from 1984 with 64 era *beatles* on the cover.

piscesboy, Monday, 28 April 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Lisa Marie Presley on the cover of RS recently. They got some letters complaining that it should have been the White Stripes instead.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

man, it would be cool, if Meg ever leaves the Stripes, if Jack got LMP to fill her spot. that would be wicked.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Beck is on the cover of YM or 17 or something right now (or last week).

Jane magazine, actually. With his girlfriend.

Magnet had Tom Petty on their most recent Yr in Rvw cover.

And not only that, but the article was just a touch over the top in praise of Petty. Like, "he's a genius! He's vital! He's hugely important!" I'm thinking, this guy needs some kneepads.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

the last forty years of RS.

die9o (dhadis), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Alternately, the next forty.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Oxide & Neutrino on Hip Hop Connection was absolutely CLASSIC

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 April 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

actually/literally, I guess it would be incongruous if RS had somebody y'know, cool on their cover

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 28 April 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The fact that years after his death, Kurt Cobain managed to make it onto the covers of those music rags that are the equivalent of Teen Beat.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oxide and Neutrino send out bottles of Cristal to super nice magazines, although I don't think many people knew that before coveringthem.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul Westerberg on the cover of Spin.

Evan (Evan), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

SPK on cover of NME.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

cripes!

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you. Have I won then? And can anyone show us a picture of it? I only have my own memory.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the prize is that you give me your copy of their M Squared 7"

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

mummy, what's an SPK?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

special penis klinik

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Surgical Penis Klinik, Jim. No, you can't have my copy of their M2 release. Which I don't have. But I have heard it, and it's good, so keep hunting.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i was close. can i still have your Ear Bitten LP?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw an issue of Relic on the newsstand some time last year with Paul oakenfold on the cover

tylero, Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

hey colin, give me ear bitten! i'm from Sydney! (just kiddin' jim)

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

goddamn i wish i'd bought that copy in Au Go Go all those years ago-go

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i wonder if there's some guy sittin somewhere clutching it, going "goddam i'm glad i bought this all those years ago-go". or if its stuck unplayed for years in a corner of his folks garage...

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 03:31 (twenty-two years ago)

if he saw what he could sell it for, i'd say he'd be pretty goddamn glad

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 03:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Guys, you don't want Ear Bitten. It's unlistenable. And I can't find it anyway.

Tom Ellard will probably have several copies, why not ask him. It's Blubberknife you want that's a great early Severed Heads release. So is Clean. And the two cassettes, Snappy Carrion and 80's Cheesecake. And if you can't get either, get Clifford Darling Please Don't Live in the Past, which has the best moments (very well chosen) from all the early releases.

Cliffords, is what Tom Ellard calls people obsessed by early Severed Heads releases. I am a bit of a Clifford.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to have most of the MP3s of the early stuff but for some reason I deleted them. Yeah, I realise Ear Bitten is rub but it's the collector in me. I must get the remastered version of Clifford one of these days...

Have the 'heads ever been on a music magazine cover? That would be incongruous. Sort of.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Cocteau Twins on Smash Hits was a bit on the 'indie' side for them. Maybe Aha were busy.

Flippa, Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Lisa Marie Presley on the cover of Rolling Stone the same week they give the new White Stripes album five stars.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)
