so...... who makes sense?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:18 (twenty-three years ago)

The Raveonettes?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

CopShootCop?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

BJECK HANSENMUNDSDOTTIR

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

CopShootCop?

I guarantee with all the certainty of a new day rising tomorrow that you will NEVER see the original line-up of Cop Shoot Cop sharing a stage together ever again.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I should headline it.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Glass Candy, I betcha anything. The Rapture too. Then you need at least one ageing indie band (first year: GBV & JSBX, last year I forget who)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

last year Sleater Kinney aged it up.

mosurock (mosurock), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Who's gonna be the quirky female solo artist this year? Cat Power maybe, or is she too famous?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:00 (twenty-three years ago)

YYY's again coz... Brooklyn. Whatever.

jm (jtm), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Good call with the Rapture. Fischerspooner? Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players?

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Quirky solo artist = Glass Candy, JBR. The Voice has sung their praises before (Amy Phillips wrote a good piece about their singer, Ida No), and they're steadily rising in stature (their album is great). Great call with the Slideshow Players, Jeanne. Maybe that would be a Sideshow by the Seashore gig? (would a slide projector work in the summer sun?) Another possibility: W.I.T.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw Glass Candy last year and thought they really really sucked.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Glass Candy is the worst dressed band in the world. W.I.T. would be great, I'd go see it then but I'm looking for an excuse to go down there anyway.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally, I'm gonna go to Coney with some friends next weekend. Wanna come along?

hstencil, Monday, 28 April 2003 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Rapture might not be "sunshiney" enough. I don't know if that's a criterion but it might be.

W.I.T. gets boring after 15 minutes. I guess that didn't stop GBV tho (boom tish)

The Rogers Sisters!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I still haven't seen the Rogers Sisters, which bums me out 'cause I know 'em from way back.

hstencil, Monday, 28 April 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

hstencil, definitely, what day?

Tracer, most of the bands mentioned so far get boring after 15 minutes, and those are the good ones mentioned.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Rogers Sisters = OTM.

New Rapture material = "sunshiney" to da extreme (that is to say it's a Vanilla Ice cover album)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I officially retract my "boring after 15 minutes" comment about the Rapture.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Them white boys know how to play that funky music.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally, don't know for sure yet, but we'll prolly go out there either Saturday the 10th or Sunday the 11th.

I finally heard "House of Jealous Lovers" last night.

hstencil, Monday, 28 April 2003 19:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah the Raveonettes get boring after like 15 seconds. But it's a good 15 seconds!

Rogers Sisters/Rapture would actually be killer, I'd actually go if that was happening.

Should we open the envelope at some point? Is there even an envelope to open?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

mary timony!!!!!

kephm, Monday, 28 April 2003 19:32 (twenty-three years ago)

When do we actually find out?

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think there is an envelope yet but I will investigate! (Surely ARE weapons will be on this bill.)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Siren MUST be awesome.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh shit, Mary that's a good one.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ummm.... Yuck!

"Modest Mouse, Hot Hot Heat, Sahara Hotnights, !!!, the Kills, Radio 4, Ted Leo/Pharmacists, Northern State, and the Pattern have been tapped to perform at the Village Voice's third annual Siren Music Festival, set for July 19 at Coney Island, N.Y."

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 1 May 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

See, this is what happens when all you punks want indie and nu-rock back (assuming you did).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 May 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

No one guessed a single artist right. Cmon, Chuck!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 1 May 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

four weeks pass...
The Dirtbombs are headlining tho!!!!!!!!!!!1

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

are the Clone Defects & Deadly Snakes playing it? I heard a rumour that they were

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

dunno

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
Is this lineup all done now? Anyone know?

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Monday, 23 June 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
Why is this lineup so unbelievably wack? Who booked it? Last year was a total blast, but the only bands I'm remotely interested in seeing this year are !!!, Radio 4, and I guess Hot Hot Heat. I'm going up this weekend anyway to visit friends and such, but jesus. Anyone else going?

Tom Breihan (Tom Breihan), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The Dirtbombs are the only band I'm really into out of this group so I might see them, but I'll probably just end up wandering around and looking for good lemonade.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going, I think, but for the Coney Island, not the music.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yr nuts, Mary. Stay far away.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I was gonna skip the Siren Fest because I thought it would coincide with the show THIS hot man was playing in Prospect Park...

http://www.brooklynx.org/img/cel/2003/malkmus_and_jicks.jpg

...but his show's actually tomorrow night. Maybe I'll do both.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

did i mention he's hot?

http://www.matadorrecords.com/images/stephen_malkmus/stephen.jpg

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Does that mean I should go see Sahara Hotnights at Siren? My Dad says they're hot...

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to see Oneida and Dirtbombs, does anyone know who's playing when?

scott m (mcd), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

they're hot (xpost)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The whole schedule's on the voice website -- Oneida and Dirtbombs play 2:30 and 3:30, respectively.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

that's the true rock block. i am going to throw fried clams at all of the other bands.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 17 July 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Why is everyone always trying to harsh on my C.I. mellow?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 17 July 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

d00d, if you wanna enjoy the CI atmosphere this is the WORST POSSIBLE TIME EVER to go. yr gonna have families there for an afternoon at the beach clashing with the pasty-legged williamsburg crowd out slumming with the colored folk. it's gonna be madness in the worst possible way!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 17 July 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Could be -- but Coney Island's fun when it's ridiculously packed, too -- it's just a different thing. Lots harder to get a beer, so bring a cooler, Mary...

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Thursday, 17 July 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

now, now. bitching about attending events at coney island is half the fun. i am secretly wildly excited. i'll complain all the way there, then run around like a hyperactive four year old buying lemonade and pretzels and mangos on a stick. then i'll spend like $20 bump bump bumpin' my azz off on the kamikaze bumper cars.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 17 July 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm especially jaded cuz i lived in CI for two years and the mermaid and siren fests were both good and bad: bad cuz it was overrun with people, good cuz it was the only time we could get our friends to come to our parties.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 17 July 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i could never live out that way. i'd become grossly obese from those cheesy pancake thingies at cafe pearl and bankrupt myself on those damn bumper cars.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 17 July 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i am gonna skip it this year. the gf is overseas, so no bother. i will go see Quiet Riot at some sh*thole roadhouse, out in the stix of Mass.
why? cause i am a good friend. as long as they do "come on feel the noise" i will be happy.

ke[hm, Thursday, 17 July 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

it was good and bad living there. the distance sucked but we had a three story house with a garage and yard and basketball court and rehearsal space! and it was cheap! it was a frat-house. but then i sold out and moved to LES. oh well.

anyway, back to siren...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 17 July 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2007/05/initial_2007_si.html

Zeno, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

gabbneb, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)
