Ex Models "Zoo Psychology"

So far, my favorite record of the year. It makes "Other Mathematics", their debut effort, sound like a Sarah records album in comparison. (Yay, ring modulator!). I was expecting to move away from really weird noisy guitars, odd tempos, and quirky yet sassy yodeling, but the Ex Models just... do this SOOOOO WELL, and have me hooked. I haven't felt excited about a band like this since Trumans Water or the Fellers...

i like 'pink noise' fine, but.... they suffer from a real acute case of rock'n'roll coitus-interruptus - just when their slack-jawed mutant funk hits a groove you might enjoy, they cut it short. which is more annoying live, where they just come across as great musicians goofing around for the benefit of other great musicians, who can appreciate the precision-expertise of their convulsions, but a strick 'blah' experience for those of us who just wanna take this stuff as a thrill-quaking noise...

Oddly I thought there was less twatting around when I saw them live, having subsequently heard the album. Still like it though.

Anyone who misses the days of Truman's Water should hear The Murder Of Rosa Luxemburg with great haste... markedly similar kind of thing, albeit with a bit more hardcore going on... If you don't live in Britain hearing them might be a bit tricky though.

I think DB needs to hear the Field Mice's "Sensitive" so he knows how a Sarah Records band brings the mufuckin' RUCKUS.

That's some recommendation, Mr Bitch... I have Other Mathematics. I like it okay.

one month passes...
Revive! db is OTM about Zoo Psychology making Other Mathematics seem tame. This thing is freaking out of control. I love it.
