Yes, through Elephant, I heard of this band. Now, what sort of thing are they? Please tell me they're English rootsy punk - I want to believe this!

In any case, what's the best album to buy/steal/download/teleport?

yeah they're good. all their albums are about the same, i dunno, there's a singles collection that might be the best 1 to start with. pretty much anything with billy childish on it is at least good.
i don't care for the white stripes, i saw em when they played in nz a few yrs back & they went on for about 3 hours & pretty much put me to sleep.

if you can find it (dunno if it's on the singles collection), get "i'm happy" b/w "park it up your arse." the a is one of the greatest modern garage rock songs, with some insanely excellent screaming vocals.

they're pretty great also check out their precursor the delmonas six

holly go lightly's "painted on" solo lp is quite good too - more laid back than the headcoatees

and if you like the headcoatees, check the headcoats too

Not sure if it's still around, but there used to be a pretty great twofer CD of Thee Headcoats' _The Kids Are Square - This is Hip_ & Thee Headcoatees' 1st LP _Girlsville_, that I always used to recommend as a starting point for people.

Songs from _Girlsville_ used to make up a fair proportion of their live set right up until the end.

I just played that Headcoats/Headcoatees split on my radio show yesterday, it is massively awesome. The Headcoatees are like a much cooler version of the first Donnas records (bored vox, simple songs, etc).
