Coldplay Clocks Bootlegs

A friend told me that Radio 1 are knocking out 'Clocks' Bootlegs as a kind of piss take like classical music ones, hardcore ones etc. Is this true? is Clocks actually a good song anyway?

Not really. Not anymore, anyway -- assuming it ever was.

While it seems that over in their homeland, Coldplay are regarded with all the cold ire we Yanks reserve for the likes of Matchbox Twenty or Creed, over here, they're not quite as ubiquotous and loathesome. I could see getting tired of them in relatively short order, but they're clearly a capable band. Personally speaking, I quite like "Clocks."

Radio 1, fingers on the pulse as always...

I seriously had a nightmare about this song once. I think mostly the scary thing was I was making a video for it, I don't really remember. I had a great time dreaming about making a 'B.O.B' video though

the video is rubbish - they could've done something more with it...i suggest dressing Chris Martin up as a chaffinch, or perhaps a hummingbird, and film him leaping into flight off tall tress and/or buildings

Ah, you don't like the spinning water bottle then?

This was a couple of months ago -- Chris Moyles was getting people to send in versions of Clocks. Some of them were mildly amusing. Try looking on the radio 1 website.

alext (alext), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 14:40 (twenty-three years ago)

there's a boot of clocks with take me with you by cosmos, I've not heard it yet though and frankly it can FUCK OFF

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

right on

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

It should be said it's not hard to sound funny on Chris Moyles' show.

Nick H, Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

christ are they going out of their way to
be 18 months behind ? moyles !? grrrrrrrr.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:59 (twenty-three years ago)

the bootleg with take me with you is as messy and bad as you would imagine.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 22:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree with Alex.

Coldplay are a lot more respected in the UK music press than Matchbox 20 have ever been anywhere.

It goes without saying they obviously aren't particularly popular with typical hip-hop/dance/post rock audiences though.

The Marco V remix (= "Clocks" piano hook + hard Mills/Liebing-style techno) is brilliant though, I really hope this gets officially released. Crowd response was amazing on the two occasions I heard Marco play it...that piano hook seems to be universally loved I guess...if there isn't already a hiphop tune sampling it, I don't think we have to wait long for it.

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 1 May 2003 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Siegbran that sounds terrific. I'm sure at the rate they're going Coldplay will have a remix comp before long. Tha piano hook, simple and dumb as it is, really is a wonder to hear in certain situations.

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

They're the kind of band that's not really there. I can listen to half a track on the radio before I realize I'm listening to nothing at all.

Catherine (Catherine), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

What Alex and Millar said. I've personally overplayed their songs on the radio and I still really like them, esp 'clocks'. (not what this thread was about but I gotta stand in solidarity with my yankee bretheren.)

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Just to warn you all, there's also a really bad dance version of Clocks, called Michelle Nicol Time. It doesn't sample Coldplay, it replays the melody on the weakest-ass midi-piano imaginable, with a the most boring rhythm track imaginable underneath. Production is completely shit too, zero punch, zero bass. Sounds like it's done by some amateur bedroom producer, but apparently it's out on a 'proper' label and all...crap like this really pisses me off.

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks for the warning Siegbran :)
