What sort of rank does Philadelphia have in the hip-hop world? I remember that back when I followed the genre, none of the artists that seemed the best or that I thought mattered the most were from here. Lately, I get the impression that Philadelphia is making a more significant contribution to hip-hop, and not just with one or two names.

it comes and it goes, but it will never be new york or la.

then again, "the south" gets lumped into one "location" so we're doing better than them i guess.

Aren't Mr. Lif and Mr. Len both from Philly?

Philly definitely has more juice than D.C. or Baltimore, though of course nowhere near NYC. but Philly's been doing pretty good the past couple years; Eve, the whole State Property crew (Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Peedi Crakk, etc....I [heart] Free and Peedi especially), the Roots.

it occurs to me that Joe the butcher has a whole kevin bacon thing going on (also from philly-and i even know his dad! which means i'm only one degree seperated) as far as who he has worked with/for:Cypress Hill/Kool Keith/Cyndi Lauper/Bob Dylan/Billy Joel/Butthole Surfers.and it goes on and on.

Mr. Lif is from Boston, but not sure about Mr. Len. I always assumed Len was from NYC tho..

I think the two Smiths (Frankie and Will) both deserve shout-outs here. Add in Schooly-School, and Philly is way the phuck up there.
