Albums that you cannot listen to without dancing around the house (even if you are not really really drunk.)

Smokey Robinson And The Miracles Motown Anthology.

When I am home alone I cannot not dance when I play this record. I don't even know how it happens, I just wind up dancing and after a song is over it occurs to me that I was dancing the whole time. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

Anything by James Brown really.

"Danger! High Voltage!" inspired Michael Jackson style high kicks and hat adjustment today. But I dance, head-bob, air-drum to everything at home.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 1 May 2003 01:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Gaz, I feel for you. I too have to dance around to the Wiggles every day. Also Pingu the Magician and Bob the Builder. My daughter pulls me off the couch, no rest permitted. I am getting her into Kraftwerk and Lee Perry - slowly but surely.

also my dog was repeatedly asked if he wanted to know how I keep starting fires. he seemed genuinely curious (about something, at least).

Los Amigos Invisibles - the New Sound of the Venezuelan Gozadera

I put on side 2 of Thriller the other day and P.Y.T. totally had me busting a move. also, the Freeway album lately is good for getting my dance on.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 1 May 2003 03:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

B-52's - great answer.

I can't think of any albums. But I can think of about 1000 songs.

Stevie Wonder - Uptight (It's Alright)
Kim Weston - Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)
JJ Jackson - But It's Alright
Otis Redding - Shout Bamalama
Thw Who - I Can't Explain
The Stones - Jumpin Jack Flash

And about 994 others. The 60's were big for dancing around the room music.

colin: bob the f**kin builder! my damn fool workmates bought us that cd. i think the first words my 18 month old will string together will be Bob the builder as he punches the air and dances. he's trying already.

I have a cheap Norther Soul comp that always gets my ass moving. Between 25 miles and This old heart of Mine, I would dance around even if my legs had just been cut off with James Brown's chin.

I cannot not shake what my momma gave me when any of the following records is playing:

The Beastie Boys' Ill Communication
Primus' Brown Album
Tribe Called Quest's Low End Theory
Talking Heads' Remain in Light, also Speaking in Tongues

One time, I had a bunch of people over doing shots (or drinking straight from the bottle, but I prefer to call that "really big shots"), and I was doing this massive dance routine on top of the table to "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake. End result? I fell off the table and busted my foot. Despite this, to this day I do a dramatic routine to "Here I Go Again", even when sober. That song has a long drama-dance history with me, starting from when I was like 14 or 15 and my mom insisted I do the Tawny Kitane when it came on when we were driving to the supermarket.

i wouldn't say i dance, really. definitely not well, except maybe with the chair dancing. however, i can't stop bouncing when listening to the following records and/or songs:

most things Bis has ever done; probably the top in this category would be "Shopaholic" from Social Dancing. that provokes mad bouncing like nothing else.

Guided By Voices. "Matter Eater Lad." also "My Impression Now." also "Echos Myron."

Electronic. "Twisted Tenderness." the song, not the entire album. the song, however, has been known to make me zoom around my house dancing and singing randomly. life is a musical. XD

Curve. "Chinese Burn." or a couple of the remixes; the Lunatic Calm one coming most quickly to mind. although there's mysteriously a lot of kicking involved. and it makes me think of Lara Croft. hrrm.

Sleater-Kinney. Dig Me Out. probably almost in its entirety, except for "Buy Her Candy" and "Jenny," although they might provoke swaying. "Words + Guitar" will also make me zoom around the house dancing and singing my head off and randomly playing air instruments and generally looking like a goon.

Björk. "You Only Live Twice." makes me wish i had ballet moves, so i think it may count---even if the dancing's only in my mind. XD

probably more, too. have to think about it.

It wasn't an album but a bootleg tape of XTC playing Philadelphia's Emerland City on the Black Sea tour that used to get my entire shanty of idiots (self included) in my senior year of college skanking about the house like a gaggle of hypoglycimic mongs after a Yoo Hoo bender, especially on the "Generals & Majors"-"Living Through Another Cuba" medley.

(Trying to rid myself of the mental image of Geir dancing round the room (in 7/8 time) to some godawful Genesis track from 1973.)

I was just dancing to DMX. For what it's worth.
