Bobb's music is the most beautiful, fragile, heatrtfelt (and admittedly disturbed) I've discovered over the past few years, and probably the music I've most listened to.
― Pudman, Monday, 23 June 2003 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)
I'm interested to see if in the 4 years since this thread started if more people have heard Bobb Trimble. The one response is just a crime. He released two masterpieces of psychedelic music in the early 80s in Iron Curtain Innocence and Harvest of Dreams, the latter containing maybe the most beautiful song I've ever heard- Premonitions.

Hi dere. Thanks to Kris Thompson and other folks I got into him in the past few years. Apparently there's a new reissue on the horizon? Anyway I know I have some AMG reviews up...
― Ned Raggett, Saturday, 8 September 2007 16:27 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, finally some official reissues coming in November. Can't wait ! somebody runs a myspace

"Another lovely angel" makes me feel sick in the best way possible.
― Marco Damiani, Monday, 10 September 2007 08:38 (seventeen years ago)
i dig this, but as far as 'acid archives' type stuff i don't love it as much as some. a good reissue is welcome regardless - radioactive reissues should be avoided like the plague wherever possible.
― electricsound, Monday, 10 September 2007 08:48 (seventeen years ago)
Neither classic nor dud but a very interesting figure in music.
I quite like him. He's on MY iPod, what more do you want?
― Saxby D. Elder, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 05:38 (seventeen years ago)
In the 'what the HECK?' files -- so, yes, I have copies of the two reissues that popped through the mail today...and I'm in the thank-you list for both! I'm not complaining, I'm just all...what? how? Guess it must have been the AMG reviews of earlier comps. *confuzzled*
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 September 2007 00:02 (seventeen years ago)
Classic.
Hey, does anyone know - I've got the old Parallel World CD with tracks from the first two albums, but they're supposed to have been remixed or remastered and sound a lot different from the originals?
Also, there's an album called Beyond the Doghouse that has a side of tracks from around the time of the two albums that's really good and a side where Bobb is playing with some teen band.
― Tim Ellison, Thursday, 13 September 2007 03:28 (seventeen years ago)
(Oh, by the way, a couple of the tracks on that first side of Beyond the Doghouse are from a period where Bobb "converted to Christianity" and they're about...Christianity.)
― Tim Ellison, Thursday, 13 September 2007 03:31 (seventeen years ago)
wow. i really like the tracks on his myspace page. def looking for the reissues when they come out
― jaxon, Thursday, 13 September 2007 04:05 (seventeen years ago)
They sound very good, I have to say -- stellar job all around. He really does have one of the most amazingly fragile voices anywhere.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 14 September 2007 04:13 (seventeen years ago)
hey all...I'm Bobb's friend/mgr. who proposed the reissues project to Secretly Canadian, and I helped him manage the project too.
answers to an above question... re: The Parallel World anthology CD ('Jupiter Transmission', 1995): the tracks were not remixed for that...just remastered somewhat better (more clearly) than early 80s technology had afforded.
the tracks weren't remixed for these forthcoming reissues either -- which is probably a good thing, because the mixes are as Bobb and his original engineer intended.
*but* -- I sat in on the remastering sessions for the new reissues, and we did an A/B comparison with the Parallel World disc afterward. No contest -- the new ones are gonna blow you away with their warmth, fullness and clarity -- making Bobb's dreamscape rock just that much more surreal.
Plus, the new reissues have three very worthwhile bonus tracks apiece -- all recorded during the same general period (early 80s) as the albums.
Needless to say, anyone who bought the 'Harvest of Dreams' on Radioactive will want to replace it -- that thing was just copied (without Bobb's knowledge or permission) from a vinyl LP.
Oh, to anyone who wants to be on Bobb's very-occasional info/mailing list: just pop me your e-mail at kris AT abunai DOT com.

I hear there is a stoner metal band who covers Bobb Trimble??
― If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago)
you might be thinking of Jex Thoth (formerly Totem)...at one point I'd obliged them with the lyrics for "When The Raven Calls"...sounds like heavy doomfeast potential, huh?
Have they recorded or performed it, to anyone's knowledge?
― Kris Thompson, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 13:26 (seventeen years ago)
Stumbled upon the "Harvest of Dreams" reissue yesterday and picked it up. Sounds great! I had some very limited exposure to Bobb's music in the past but I'm super impressed with the quality of the remaster (and of the original recording, for that matter). I work in the area of Bobb's hometown which was a nice connection this morning when I was driving around playing this record. Glad to see such an excellent, unique, and local songwriter getting some deserved recognition.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 8 November 2007 13:35 (seventeen years ago)
Heard the first one playing at Other Music and picked it up. Pretty cool. Love the letter to John, Paul, George and Ringo.
― James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago)
Both records are great great great and some of the best reissues of the year, for sure. I like "Harvest of Dreams" a bit more though.
― ian, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 00:13 (seventeen years ago)
i love Iron Curtain Innocence and have only listened to Harvest of Dreams once in a car kinda low, but it sounds a bit less loopy/psyched out and more folky. am i wrong?

Revive, because I picked up Iron Curtain Innocence and am loving it. Musically and lyrically different I guess but it reminds me of Bill Fay somewhat. Also Pink Floyd, if Syd had rejoined for Dark Side Of The Moon. Does anyone know if he's still musically active at all?

Bobb recently returned to the stage after a 10+ year absence. Last month (May 3) he & I were part of "The Prefab Messiahs with Bobb Trimble" at the Wormtown 30th Anniversary Bash in Worcester MA.
There will likely be some new Bobb bookings this fall (New England & NY), after the band learns some more of his material. check his myspace (and subscribe to the blog there): www.myspace.com/bobbtrimble
he also has a facebook music page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bobb-Trimble/8625507226
i may forget to check back here, so write me at oztofer #at# yahoo #dot# com with questions or to get on his mailing list

― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Saturday, 5 July 2008 10:14 (sixteen years ago)
they (Jex Thoth) have asked Bobb to sing the song with them at the CMJ fest (Oct.'08, NYC). he says he'd like to do it.
pretty soon, we'll be trying to book some fall dates in the Northeast (between New England and DC). he says he wants to call his new group Flying Spiders. we'll see if the band talks him out of it.

Found this gem buried in the back of an Ariel Pink mix and have been addicted ever since. This has to be the most beautifully crafted song I've ever heard. Thanks!
