My dj box - tacky or classy?

So I've spent about two years assembling this collection of anachronistic dance music, and everyone I play it to seems to think it's awful. I really want to play it out, but am slightly scared. Oh sage-like ILM, please tell me it's not just me who thinks this stuff is great...

In no particular order, and omitting the newer stuff:

Cover Girls - "Hooked on you" (Diamond dub)
TKA - "One way love"
Cybotron - "Cosmic cars"
Harry Thumann - "Underwater"
Debbie Deb - "When I hear music"
Expose - "Point of no return"
LNR - "Work it to the bone"
Stevie V - "Dirty cash (money talks)"
Hithouse - "Jack to the sound of the underground"
Kano - "I'm ready"
Kano - "Another life"
Pulstar - "Hypnosis" b/w "Bladerunner"
Interface - "Plastic age"
Ken Laszlo - "Hey hey guy"
Man 2 Man feat Man Parrish - "Male stripper" b/w "All men are beasts"
Mito - "Droid"
Three Degrees - "The runner" (sax solo!)
D & S Building contractors - "One for the burglar"
Nitzer Ebb - "Ascend"
Nitzer Ebb - "Control (I'm here)" b/w "Join in the chant"
UK Vision - "Lucifer's friend"
Slick - "Space bass"
"Gherkin jerks"
Mr Fingers - "Mysteries of love"
Ragtyme - "I can't stay away"
Dhar Braxton - "Jump back"
Unique 3 - "Weight for the bass"
Scotch - "Delirio mind"
Whodini - "Friends" (instrumental, played at 45)
Mayday - "Nude photo '88"
Space - "magic fly"
Tom Moulton - "McLane Explosion" (Italo remixes)
Colonel Abrams - "Trapped" (dub)
Omar Santana and the Brooklyn Bandits - "Do what you want"
Patrick Hernandez - "Born to be alive"
Jermaine Jackson - "Erucu"
Slimline - "If you can dance"
Venus - "One shot lover"
Laura Lee - "Satisfaction"

it's a bit 'late 80s gay club', I think...... and can Jermaine Jackson and Man 2 Man have a place in ANY record box?

Wouldn't make me shake a leg, I'm afraid.

This is like the last half hour of the big electroclash night in my city. It's great to cool down to, but I can't imagine what it'd be like at peak time or earlier. I don't think any of that stuff's awful at all.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 2 May 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd be happy hearing most of those records anywhere :)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 May 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh whats the moulton one like?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 2 May 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's sweet - it has slightly chunked up versions of "Magic Fly", "Pulstar", "Accidental Lover" and some Vangelis thing that I can't remember. The Magic Fly one is the real gem though cos it means you can drop it closer to peak as it's a little faster and has chunkier drums...

Are you indie? Are your friends indie? That my be part of the problem. ;-)

If you have a vinyl copy of "cosmic cars" by cybotron and you dont know what it is then I would be glad to take it off your hands for you ;-)

evrything that i have heard from the above list is good.

Any DJ box with Kano's "I'm Ready" is okay with me. I think you've got a nice mix of electro, freestyle, and Italian disco there.
