Kinda surprised that my list holds up just fine, but I shouldn't be. It's not like my appreciation of this band is ever-evolving.

tits akimbo (kenan), Sunday, 12 April 2009 05:45 (sixteen years ago)

my list should have 'there is a light that never goes out' on it. i used to find it innocuous - these days it gives me chills.

Surprised you didn't select Well I Wonder from Meat Is Murder. I like This Night Has Opened My Eyes a lot too, and assumed the top placement meant you liked it best. Moz's vocal on both songs seems similarly to me in tone and effect.

xp Well I Wonder and TNHOME have a similar vocal delivery but they're a world apart musically - I love Meat is Murder top to bottom, but I never listen to Well I Wonder on its own. TNHOME is a singularly beguiling song, where every player shines. It's eery, creepy, sad, disappointed, at peace, but lost... it's a very mournful song about regret, conflicted feelings... one of the best marriages of lyrics and music I've ever heard. It stands alone.

01. Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others (Instrumental version)

07. Handsome Devil (Peel Session version)
08. Barbarism Begins at Home
09. Rubber Ring
10. There Is a Light that Never Goes Out

I've been listening to the instrumental version of Some Girls non-stop. It's possibly my favourite Smiths song (the instrumental version in particular)
