Who else thinks the latest single from the Dandy Warhols is a shocker?

Is this the same band who gave us such classics as 'Minnesota' and 'Godless'. i hope the rest of the album is beter than this annoying rubbish.

*fumes and pulls out hair simultaneously looking better than Courtney Taylor's hairdo whilst making a sweeter sound*

Yup. Does what it says on the tin. Annoys the crap out of the rockists.

::dances around to Duran Duran with glee::

See, the even funnier thing is that it's actually an uncredited cover/ripoff from a certain other band who name might or might not be a reference/pun to a dead Rolling Stones member and a religious cult suicide in the late seventies, whose main guy wrote it three years ago -- and the recordings exist to prove it, I gather. Kate, be warned -- the lawyers are being called in.

Anton and his nuisance lawsuits again? Honestly, he should change the name of his band to the Allen Klein Orchestra!

Totally rich irony coming from a man who has spent his entirely life SLAVISHLY RIPPING OFF OTHER BANDS to the point where he has purposefully never written an original song in his life.

Anton is jealous that Courtney actually knows how to work the major label big budget system in a way that Anton never has been able to do. Maybe that makes Anton more pure and Courtney more of a schmoozer/rip-off artist, but you know what? Who the fuck cares. Honestly. Go find another pantleg of publicity to frottage.

I give you this thread:

Greatest Fake Rolling Stones Songs

I need say no more.

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

My only real problem with the song is that it ain't Duran Duran by any stretch -- well, they might be aiming for 1982 era but it feels like 1990.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 May 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

at least anton can make a listenable pastiche.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 2 May 2003 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder how long until Anton gets on this thread and starts cursing me...

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Only the song that's in question is "I Am Sound" and not the "We Used To Be Friends" single.

I still don't hear any Duran connection. To my ears, they sound like The Cars

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 2 May 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

If it still prompts their keyboard player to remove her shirt onstage, I have no problems with it. That said, I haven't really paid any attention to them since their second album.

I've got all three Dandy Warhols albums (all have some fine mindless winners), but I can't see them *disappointing* me cuz I don't expect anything from them. It's like being disappointed by Tommy Roe. It's just brit-drone bubblegum.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 2 May 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, you've sold me! I'm seeking this out now.

Alex? ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 3 May 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It all sounds really "Ashes to Ashes" to me, not just the song Chris mentioned on that other thread. And there's one song towards the end that has a sort of lazy "Do They Know It's Christmas" melody. The falsetto vocals are great, the lyrics are the usual funny semi-throwaway chatty stuff. I think it's the only album of theirs that I can stand to listen to all the way through--it's great!

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 3 May 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
I think I like 'Smoke It'. Why on earth would this be?

Zia's background 'Yeah!' is miraculously adorable.

There are big dogs in the video, Spike Jonze 'Sweater Song' style. It is all ridiculously 1994.
