I don't know how long you'll have to listen to hear the Thai-language disco cover version of Trio's "Da Da Da" that I'm listening to right now...

...but even if you have to wait forty days while wandering in the wilderness and living on locusts and wild honey, it'll be worth it. Like, whoa.

"How long you'll have to wait," I meant to write.

if only i weren't on a 56K dialup connection. tried listening and it keeps dropping out.

would be fun, too---reading a great section of this Thai cookbook i've got detailing the history of Thai food. :)

Dammit, John, for the last few days I have desired your presence here again in SoCal. There's this wonderful Thai restaurant that Chris Barrus discovered and I've been there twice now -- it's over in Norwalk -- and both times I've been there they've been playing the most fascinating mix of Thai pop. I've heard everything from straightforward ballads to stomping Eurotrance combined with Thai duets (best idea ever, I think) to this pure what-the-fuck combination of eighties post-punk, constant key changes and staccato vocals.

In Norwalk! You know I lived in Norwalk from '89-'92 roughly, it was where my present musical concern was born

there's a Mexican restaurant there called "El Taco Locco" (spelling as I've given it for no discernable reason) that just rules the skool

obThread: yeah Ned I tell you that Thai pop gets better every year, it's like J-Pop without the brain-taxing layers of reference, or Bollywood soundtracks with the groove shifted over about two notches closer to "mellow"

In Norwalk!

Yes, Norwalk indeed. It's called Renu Nakorn, on Rosecrans, and prompted the outbursts of delectability of its pork on that one ILE thread from Chris and I, so you are warned. ;-) Hadn't heard of this Mexican restaurant, hmmm...

And that's a great comparison, some of those songs weren't mellow -- I'm not talking explosively crazed and you have a good point of comparison, but they knew how to crank up the arrangements. ;-) But Momus says it's all about Mexico now, so T-pop will have to suffer. ;-)
