notfazed (notfazed), Saturday, 3 May 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

not true, i'm sure there'd be an uproar if there was a band of christians with a jewish lead singer called the Jewish Problem.

D Aziz (esquire1983), Saturday, 3 May 2003 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

cuz they 5uXorz!!

ILM Asshole (Keiko), Saturday, 3 May 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

(I'm not sure about that analogy, actually: one substantive difference is that there's not, to my knowledge, ever been a common phrase "the Jewish problem," whereas "the Negro problem" was relatively common parlance up until people came around and started calling it stuff like "the Civil Rights Movement.")

nabisco (nabisco), Saturday, 3 May 2003 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Sunday, 4 May 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Under what circumstances would anyone ever name-drop The Negro Problem?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 4 May 2003 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah that was a weird statement. "the Jewish problem" was/is a very common nazi statement.

David Allen, Sunday, 4 May 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

god that's in poor taste, custos.

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 4 May 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

But its hilarious.

David Allen, Sunday, 4 May 2003 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, I think We Are All In Agreement, anyone who would name-drop The Negro Problem would, by very definition, be an Asshole.

rumplestiltskin, Sunday, 4 May 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, would there really be an "uproar" if there were a band called The Jewish Problem? For the same reasons notfazed doesn't want to namedrop The Negro Problem, or because it's a holocaust reference? If there can be Joy Division, punks with swastikas, Bowie with heil hitler, openly racist Scandinavian metal, etc. etc.....

Adam A. (Keiko), Sunday, 4 May 2003 05:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, my blind spot, I guess: I'd not really seen "the Jewish problem" in frequent use.

nabisco (nabisco), Sunday, 4 May 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

See Karl Marx, born Jewish, "On the Jewish Question".

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Sunday, 4 May 2003 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

how is that related?

d k (d k), Sunday, 4 May 2003 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Cos he fronted a punk rock band called "On the Jewish Question"

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Sunday, 4 May 2003 06:01 (twenty-two years ago)

god that's in poor taste, custos.
Hey...where'd the pics go to? That XS pic was soooo awesome!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Sunday, 4 May 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

It's still in poor taste even w/o the pics. Christ, at least use "ninja" Custos.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Sunday, 4 May 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The voice in my head was Ice Cube, and he never woulda said Ninja. I'm just quoting him.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Sunday, 4 May 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Having never heard the band I think I agree with ILM Asshole and rumpelstiltskin.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 4 May 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The voice in my head was Ice Cube, and he never woulda said Ninja.

Dude, he so would have.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Sunday, 4 May 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Which Ice Cube are you thinking of, Dan?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 4 May 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, he so would have.
*sigh*
Daniel...if I had said Ninja, the post would stop making sense.
The Flash isn't a ninja, but even the white version of the Flash uses gangsta rapper slang on occasion. Also: If I had said "Ninja" it would've overcomplicated the mental image I was trying to evoke.

"He's Black! He's the Flash! He's a...a...Ninja? WTF!?"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Sunday, 4 May 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ninjas really kick ass.

Adam A. (Keiko), Sunday, 4 May 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Just out of curiousity, how many of these were about the actual band?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 5 May 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

*sigh*
Custos, if I actually have to explain to you why a black ninja dressed as The Flash would be the greatest thing evah and as such would make any rockist sense-making criterias redundant, there is no hope for you...

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 5 May 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah. There are too many nimbos (ninja bimbo/ninja himbos) in comics already. Finding one with a tan and a gangsta strut wouldn't automatically make him cool. Besides:
Gangsta: Does everything in his power to make himself conspicious
Ninja: Does everything in his power to make himself inconspicious
Besides, we already know that the ulitmate Black Badass is that ultimate voodoo anarchist"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 5 May 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

Fame, all of a sudden. Kinda. (I gather Forksclovetofu did a post on this elsewhere.)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 21 May 2007 04:41 (eighteen years ago)

That play sounds interesting.

filthy dylan, Monday, 21 May 2007 05:26 (eighteen years ago)

Yea, the article on Stew and the attached review of the play make me wish it will tour (since the NY run is short)

curmudgeon, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

me too. I like the band and I like Stew.

tremendoid, Monday, 21 May 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

Still lovin' the Stew; scared that at one point Adam Duritz and I agreed on something/anything.
