recordings of telemetry

I want to know what's out there. I know they put part of the CONET project on CD, but that's not what I want. I want the meaty stuff, those incomprehensible signals of machines telling each other what to do with complex coded TB303 impersonations and scattering bleeps all over the airwaves. I love that stuff. Does anybody else? Who puts out the box set?

millar, did you ever have any luck digging this kind of stuff up?

five years pass...

I used to listen to telemetry signals on shortwave radio when I was a kid. I lived in Canberra, and there's embassies all over the place there being the capital - i'm pretty sure I was listening to classified bleeps and telemetry noises telling sat dishes what to do, and whatnot. Tons of it, esp at night.

Now, 20 years later in a bigger city, I pick up nothing. It's curious.

And I miss it! So spooky. Numbers stations, too. The Conet project has some awesome stuff of these.

I have a great old record from the 50's called 'For Shortwave Listeners' somewhere I should digitize sometime.

This and the Conet stuff, I find it spookily soothing to listen to. All those bleepbleeps and strange white noise that shortwave produces, its a kind of pleasantly fearful ambience.

many of my favorite ambient albums are basically 100% shortwave radio remixes

my favorite favorite is Tod Dockstader's 'Aerial 1' (mellow first of a 3 disc set, 'Aerial 2' is the more active one, 'Aerial 3' is the showdown). But 'Aerial 1', anyone who's ever enjoyed any ambient album ever should check it out

& if you like that, then:

John Duncan - Phantom Broadcast
William Basinski - The River
Chris Meloche - Document '90
Michael Snow - 2 Radio Solos
Holger Czukay / Rolf Dammers - Canaxis
Holger Czukay / David Sylvian - Plight & Premonition
Stockhausen - Telemusik / Hymnen (Region 1)
Cage - Imaginary Landscape No. 4 / Radio Music

Many thanks Milton, that shortwave music blog has just made my month.
