Perplexa or Pajo?

Has anyone out there seen the band Perplexa, or any of Dave Pajo's bands (the names of all of which escape me)? The guitarist in Perplexa used to be in Wig, who were an incredible live act before the first singer left. Pajo is Thor. Nuff said. I just haven't been able to catch him live since Evergreen (?), and that was years ago. Fanks, Velveeto

Um, I know nothing about Perplexa. But Pajo's main solo project now is Papa M, who are good if a little Oldham-derivative these days, and he's also a member of Billy Corgan's made-for-rock-radio-festival Zwan.

made-for-rock-radio-festival

Brilliant description! And since they're very good at just that, who am I to argue?

David Pajo was very nice to me when I spoke to him in Philly on April 5th.

Perplexa is Jonathan Wald and Robert Schurgin and their 4th album will be out in 2005

Dave Pajo wasn't in Evergreen.

I played a show with Papa M once -- it was a solo thing but he filled it out nicely with guitar through a looping pedal, holstered harmonica, and keyboards. His new stuff is hit or miss. The best I've heard is on the "Three Songs" mini-CD. He was a pretty nice guy after the show.

wait, are we talking Perplexa from Detroit? David Pajo, I'm pretty sure, was not in that band, otherwise my friend Jen (the bass player) was keeping something from me. i could be wrong, though...

five months pass...
I wanted to post to the Dave Pajo thread that I think the new album is aces, the best thing I've heard from him since 2000, but the search function won't cough up the darned thread. Figured this was the next best thing.

How is it diff. from the last couple releases? (I haven't heard it.)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

Let me get back to you with the specifics later today or tomorrow (have only played it twice). Yeah, he's singing, but the lyrics aren't Prince Valient footnotes anymore (circa Whatever, Mortal), the production is somewhat lo-fi/odd (recorded on a $40 computer software program)...I dunno. It just WORKS in a way that most of his other sung stuff hasn't.
