Sap time - Looking for a quote about music/friendship/love/religion

I'm looking for a relatively short quote that includes aspects of friendship and/or love and/or religion (religion being the least important aspect) .. and it can either also include a musical reference or be a lyric, but MUST be musically-related somehow. Preferably, all of the above, and not an Elton John Lyric. Something profound, but not maudlin -

I can't find anything on the Web - everything is such a fucking cliche' ...

.. What have you got?

blah blah...

... and no religion, too...

.. Oh, and no Beatles quotes....

No recognizable-by-most-people lyrics .. I'd prefer something that isn't well-known...

Idle toying, worship the whore,
Forbidden was bidden,
kiss turned to gnaw
Indolent minds, broken rules
The grey land is falling,
Laugh at the fools
We have Joy - We have Joy!

We was drunk, intoxicate
No time for doubt, no time, no late
I saw the laughing one - this was the West
he said "take your spear and puncture the flesh"
We have Joy! - We have Joy!

We was drunk, intoxicate
No time for doubt, no time, no late
Brandish the weapon, Sound out the din
We feeling red now - time to move in
We have Joy - We have Joy!

"We Have Joy" by Killing Joke.....naturally

It would be better to know what the quote is for as to rule out things that wouldn't be appropriate.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 5 May 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, to highlight the inappropriateness of most of the quotes so far - the quote is needed for an inscription on a musical instrument for a scholar of religious music. The quote doesn't need to be religious - but should probably be respectful.

This is what I've found:
"Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life."(Ludwig van Beethoven)

"Play the music, not the instrument."

..neither are exactly what I'm after, but closer than the Van Halen quote. (Nice try though dave.) I love the Zappa quote - it works for me, but not for the person this is going to...
