What do yall think about this? It's been done since May but they can't release the DVD until after October or something until it plays at some film festival in Toronto. I am REALLY EXCITED about this, being something of a fanatic (and the only person I know who owns every single album). But...will this open our boy up to a lame ass yuppie sorta mass appeal, of diletante assholes who will treat him like some kind of pet cause and joust us over the albums on ebay? Will he be treated by hipsters who don't respect his art as some sort of morbid curiosity a la Daniel Johnston and Wesley Willis? (Damn you, Irwin Chusid!!)

I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully one of the artsy fartsy cinemas will pick it up around here. If not, I'm sure it'll show in Boston or NYC or both.

totally, Ned. I'm sure I have them all, I have a checklist. I'm even re-buying the CD reissues of teh albums I have on vinyl! Sick.

while we're on the topic, what are some of yr favorite Jandek albums?

Mine by far is You Walk Alone, but also always loved Blue Corpse. I'm almost freakishly familiar with each album, and love them all for different reasons - wanted to get other perspectives. Tell which and why.

I'm partial to Interstellar Discussion, The Telegraph Melts and I also quite enjoy Blue Corpse. Blue Corpse is definitely what I'd call the most conventional Jandek album; melody, rhythm, chords, structure..but so anguished, it makes me want to cry.

I dunno...Blue Corpse is maudlin, downer, cracked...I'd say that You Walk Alone is the most "conventional" (using that term of course in the loosest possible sense) due to the other guitarist and the near-blues structures...

well it probably won't happen bcz it simply is too obscure i think. I still haven't heard any jandek but I'll probably get round to it soon.

i'm not the artistic one in this house. How do you make a stencil out of something printed out from a computer? Do you have to get an exacto knife and cut it yrself?

yeah exactly, you print and cut it yourself. as it says on the site you need to glue the print-out stencil template to cardstock and then cut. its pretty amazing how good it looks.

The woman with the glasses is Angela from Cambridge, MA record store Twisted Village. I believe that is the shop she is in there, yes.

According to the websiite they can show the movie before the Toronto festival but they can't distribute any DVD/Videos. My guess is that some of the more adventerous places will screen this soon.

ten years pass...

The Minneapolis Underground Film Festival will be screening the documentary about Jandek called I Know You Well at the St. Anthony Main Theaters on Saturday, Oct. 10th at 1:00 p.m.. This film was shot around Jandek's two Minnesota performances in 2012 and 2013.

The filmmakers were given some up-close, behind-the-scenes access to both the Mankato and Minneapolis Jandek shows. You'll get a glimpse into the process of how these shows were developed and rehearsed, and then see actual footage from the performances. There is also extensive interview footage with "The Rep" in his hometown of Houston that reveals his thoughts on music and performance.
