It's a constant source of irritation that there doesn't seem to exist online, a well-updated London/UK bar/club/gig guide. I simply refuse to believe there isn't one, but equally I'm fucked if I can find one anywhere. I signed up to thisislondon.co.uk, the Evening Standard's thing, in the hope that it'd be like Metro Life but bigger and better, and it's, er, smaller and worse.

Boggling. Perhaps I shall start a blog which just updates whenever I find anything out, as my own personal rolling Word document gig guide does. Would there be any interest in such a thing?

Hey, that's actually really good, on first viewing. Is it independent? Looks like it. The problem I've found with all online resources thus far, is that they all seem to be affiliated to some group of promoters or other, so you miss stuff.

well see we're laughing pretty much
oop here in manchester-on-the-wold, as the town is so small
it means anything cool is flagged up /known about months in advance usually.

also there's this, which is reasonably good :

http://www.manchester.com/ad/html/clubs/

but typically, the capital doesn't have one as they don't seem to have mastered the web yet.
it behoves us to remember at this juncture that the computer was invented in manchester !

irlondon's alright, but I'm pretty sure it only goes by headliners: I seem to remember searching it for a gig I knew was going to happen and coming up with nothing because it didn't admit to the existence of support bands.

I've heard good things of Ents24, though I think they may have recently become affiliated to ticketweb (so now I'm a bit dubious).

Might this be of any use?

http://www.londonmusic.blogspot.com/

It's basically a very simple transcript of a Word document I keep on my desktop, updating whenever I notice something of interest coming up.

Thoughts?

I have GOT to move back to London and live with the olds, there's nothing else for it after seeing charlie's London guide. I'm missing far too much living in the frozen wilds of Manchester. I even managed to miss bloody Chicks on Speed the other night at Band on the Wall.

Dammit.
