This does look pretty irie, Yancey. "Bankrobber" has gotta be one of my favoritest Clash tracks.

I'm so curious about this comp as I always wished there was more hard evidence of the dub/punk love affair. Two great tastes that taste great together.

(I think the Killing Joke song steals the whole thing)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, it's pretty terrific. this and the Ze Records comps are definitely getting a lot of stuff I've been wanting to hear out there, bless 'em

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh! I haven't gotten those yet, Matos. I want!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

(tho the 4 Be 2 song sounds like Braveheart meets Cool Runnings)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

No "Bod's Message" by Essential Logic??? What the fuck???

Seems something off of *The Mekons Story* might have fit, too.

But yeah, it looks nice. I even forget who Red Beat and 4 Be 2 are.

chuck, Tuesday, 6 May 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't either, Y

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

usual suspects *grumblegrumble* and some desirables/surprises. stifflittlefingers in dub? wha?

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it's great (fantastic tracklist) but between this and Disco Not Disco and In The Beginning There Was Rhythm and Nine O'Clock Drop doesn't it seem like these comps are getting a little silly. I mean there are always one or two great rarities that suckas like me drool over on each one, but maybe half the tracks are over anthologized or easily available. It feels like a bit of a rip off paying full price for these things.

Finally, someone else SEES THE LIGHT!

"Turn To Red" was a fairly common NYC dancefloor track when it came out (as was "Change"). Waah waaah waah 81, go home, I know, but I'm saying.

Sasha Frere-Jones (Sasha Frere-Jones), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Amen, brother.

Weren't the 4Be2s Jimmy Lydon's band?

For myself, I'd like to see a bit more dread and a bit less rocker. I'd have done whatever I could to get Militant Barry's "Pistol Boy" on there.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

this comp is great but they were stupid for not putting any Culture Shock on there.

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 17 May 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

This came in the mail today. It's f' in great, through and through...

M Specktor (M Specktor), Sunday, 18 May 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

fogbutt, Tuesday, 7 September 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

David Allen (David Allen), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

twelve years pass...

Just picked this up, wish there was a second volume!

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 6 September 2017 17:49 (eight years ago)

There was sequel of sorts called "Modern Wild Dub" with contemporary (for the time) artists like !!!, Out Hud, LCD Soundsystem, Radio 4. Never heard it though.
