haven't got em yet but I'm fiending for:

- Harva Narghile: Turkish Psyche Comp
- Love Peace and Poetry: Brazil
- GS I Love You (Japanese 60's rock - i have the 2nd volume but not the first)

any suggestions on these or others?

out of that lot, i only have cambodia rocks, but I like it a lot. It's pretty different, but i get the impression that's what you're looking for.

there's a couple of good mexican ones too - only seen 'em as bootlegs though

there's also:

turkish delights - more turkish beat and psych
steam kodok - singaporean rock
big lizard stomp - more japanese 'group sounds' ala "g.s. i love you"
asian takeaways - asian pop/rock from the 60s
simla beat 70/71 - allegedly indian psych rock stuff
sons of yma - peruvian garage/psych

all of the "peace love and poetry" comps are worth hearing, ditto for the "g.s. i love you" series. also, the los saicos "wild teen punk from peru" 10" is great.

thanks! those sound amazing...

anyone heard the asian edition of "girls in the garage" - or better yet - know where I can track down a copy?

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh...girls in the garage volume 9, i think? has a nice version of "yummy yummy yummy" by rita chao, overall pretty good and poppy. i don't own an actual copy, got it off of soulseek.

i've got that GITG oriental special - to be honest it feels a bit like a comedy record which is a shame

there's a dutch series called "Biet Het" that covers a wide range of excellent and obscure dutch beat offerings from the sixties. i only know part 3 (From the Kitchen to the Garage), compiling girl (groups) from that era. it makes for great listening, maybe more so if you understand the lyrics (v. silly sometimes) but also without that "extra" it's great stuff. if you're unable to find it i would be willing to burn a copy if you like...

willem (willem), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

if you understand the lyrics

actually, the ratio dutch/english lyrics is about 50/50...

Those are pretty good. Japanese stuff that kinda splits the difference between group sounds and garage, though, not super psychedelic... The Big Lizard Stomp comp I mentioned many years ago is a volume in that series.

BLS has a couple of great Golden Cups tunes, including their storming version of Hey Joe.
