Kim Wilde, Natalie Cole and both Lennon boys (if Sean could possibly count as a "star" or "famous" for anything else than being his dad's son) come to mind. Are there any others?

There's a song on Something/Anything (can't remember which) that was dedicated to "Patti Lee Smith" a few years before Horses.

Richard Ashcroft wasn't *that* well-known before "Cast No Shadow".

Am I famous enough to count? ;-)

Maybe you'll be *more* famous soon kate, in which case a pre-emptive 'yes'.

Nico (by Bob Dylan) and Marianne Faithfull (by Jagger & Richards).

Come on Kate, spill the beans. Tell us the whole story.

How 'bout the Girl Trouble song "Neko Loves to Rock and Roll", supposedly about Neko Case, but released in 1980, quite a long time before Ms. Case became justifiably somewhat well known.

I had lots of really crap songs written about me by really crap local bands in Albany and later in NYC.

I can think of at least three off the cuff...

"Too Young" by D1rty F@ce after the singer (on whom I had a massive though terribly misguided crush, after he turned out to be a right asshole, later in life, when he was my boss at a crap job) found out that I was only 16.

I can't remember the name of the song, but it was by Sp1tp0pe - something about a girl who likes to suck on feet, based on this bizarre incident where I saw their bassist walking down the street (I vaguely knew him) attacked him, pulled his boots off and started sucking his toes. This was my way of saying hello when I was a crazy 16 year old punk rocker. What can I say?

Oh, and some really dreadful NJ/PA mod band who evolved out of The Cre@tures of the G0lden D@wn (not the 0rigin@l S1ns before anyone asks) wrote some nasty song about me. But I probably deserved that, because when The Cre@tures asked me to do these sexy French backing vocals on one of their albums, I basically looked up the nastiest, dirtiest French phrases and sang this bit where I called them all perverts and twats and ferret-botherers in French in a really sexy voice, and they never knew until the record got released in Europe! Ha ha ha!

Anyway... enough for one day. This isn't name-dropping since The Cre@tures are the only band even mildly famous enough for anyone to have heard of...

Oh, and to answer the thread properly, Courtney Love, obviously, she had a whole BAND named after her before she became famous herself.

Is Steve Wynn famous? "Hero Takes a Fall" was written about him/inspired by him, as legend has it.

But he's probably the only one that cares.

...if Sean could possibly count as a "star" or "famous" for anything else than being his dad's son...

Yeah, certainly neither his solo album nor his years as a member of Cibo Matto were anything more than (beautiful funky) piss in a (wonderfully eclectic, melodic, and creative) bucket!

There's that old pop song about Linda McCartney ("Linda"?)
"Lowdown In The Street" by ZZ Top mentions the Fabulous Thunderbirds (by first name) before they were big
"Nirvana" by Julianna Hatfield (about Cobain & Co.)
