I love it, but I would. In process of writing a review for Stylus/my blog about it. What do y'all think?

more of the same really - I was a bit disappointed to be honest, he doesn't seem to have an awful to say

I can't say I'm bothered by people having anything to say; much like Manitoba I'm more interested in context and delivery than content itself. I like that Four Tet says nothing but beautifully.

over rated. And if i haveta read the word .. er.. FOLKTRONICA again I'm going to be very angry.

I haven't heard it, but I just heard Pause for the first time and wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. It's very pleasant, but it's not mind-blowing. How does Rounds differ?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 8 May 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

it's pleasant and quite good but i'll be damned if i can remember a single thing about it right now without listening to it

I had the same response as Jess (in fact, same response as jaymc) the first listen or two...after a half-dozen, I'm starting to come round. I'm not sure "mind-blowing" is the adj. of choice, but it's good...quiet, and I mean that not at all as a pejorative...

If I have to invent 'Folktronica' again I'm going to be livid!

i also just only recently got Pause and enjoyed it on sunday afternoon. sadly though, the most enjoyable bit was during track 7 when the cd started skipping and it took me and the person i was with a full 2 minutes to realise it wasn't deliberate. it sounded really good - the guitar sound kept on sliding in and out of time with the (obviously fairly jittery) beat.

has he actually ever used this trick on anything he's done, and if not, why not, because it works! someone tell him quick.

Used to great effect on 'she moves she'in precisely the same way! Rounds is more of the same, but its quite nice and 'slow jam' sounds supiciously like a one man Fridge track.... Have to say 'glasshead' is still so cool!

I'd never heard this artist before but I heard some on Brave New Waves the other night and it seemed pleasant. What's a good album?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 8 May 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

If anyone cares, I talked to Mr. Four Tet Guy on the phone today and he said he was "working on some tracks" with Beth Orton for her next album, and that they'd already finished a couple. There seemed to be some disagreement about this situation on the other Four Tet thread, so I thought I'd throw that little tidbit out there. Now it's out there.

sundar; Either Pause or Rounds is a good starting point. I'd say dialogue too, but I've been vaguelly looking for the bugger for a few months (having downloaded some tracks a year or more ago) and still can't find it. There's little between Pause or Rounds in terms of quality, but the latter is perhaps a bit jazzier and less folky (but only very marginally).

i picked it up, it sounds very nice on the first listen. it's easy on the ear (and i mean this in the best possible sense).
