Attacking DIY is it happening in your town?

Using the Great White fire as a pretext to close "dangerious" DIY venues, fire marshals have moved through Maryland and closed almost all of the non-bar concert halls. This action took about a month, doing what some police have been trying to do for the last few years. Shows are scrabbling onto college campuses and into church basement to fill the void.
The cops also closed Surf Reality (a truly underground performance venue)in New York, citing an ancient speak easy law.
Is this stepped up war on DIY happening where you live???

Well, in Brooklyn, hell yes. They raid and break up loft shows -- although you can do stuff a little under the radar.

yeah, there's some unfortunate crackdowns happening in Baltimore lately. really a shame since so many cool spaces have opened up in the past couple years. perversely, city hall only seems to get uneasy about mass gatherings of punk rockers when alcohol *isn't* being served.

maybe I should start a DIY venue fully equipped with headphones (a la Flaming Lips' tour a couple years ago minus the amps), and elude noise ordinances completely!
