Can I recant?

I said a while back that ...Trail of Dead were great live. First time I saw them they were incredible.
But I take it back. They played Irving Plaza in New York a month ago. They were phucking awful. Fat Elvises already without ever even having a hit.

Okay, so they were drunk, but wtf? People pay good money, $17 or $20, and these guys drink themselves into a sloppy stupor before the show... I WANT A REFUND!

This was the first time I ever walked out of a show I payed money to see. The thing that broke my back was when they brought 50 people up on stage to dance. It was like MTV Spring Break party.

Never again.

I went to see them open for Guided by Voices a couple of weeks ago. I liked the last album when it came out early last year, but it quickly got boring. I expected a good live show, and though they weren't exactly disappointing, they didn't do much for me.

At least they didn't smash their instruments at the end. But the guitarist threw a beer bottle out in the crowd and hit some kid in the head.

Oddly, and sadly, there were more people there for them than GBV. And GBV brought the rock that night.

and you will know them by the trail of roadies that set up their mic stands and instruments for them again after they've smashed their guitars AGAIN

If you woulda asked, I woulda told you to avoid these suckahs when they were piddling around Austin six years ago, acting like the MakeUp outside of William Parker shows.
