tony bleach, Friday, 9 May 2003 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Rudimentary Peni all the way. If you don't believe me, play "Cosmetic Plague" about two million times.

Douglas (Douglas), Saturday, 10 May 2003 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 10 May 2003 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The Cravats, Rudi Peni a not close second.

Kris (aqueduct), Sunday, 11 May 2003 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

kukl!

bob snoom, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

flux of pink indians!! i have never heard honey bane though; kukl is very good too!

dave k, Tuesday, 13 May 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Flux of pink indians, certainly. Rudimentary peni second.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

the mob, no contest. (even though the album wasn't on crass)

dan (dan), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

then it doesnt count.

it actually goes

Anthrax>Cravats>R. Peni>FOPI>Crass

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The Cravats album I have isn't on Crass either.

Kris (aqueduct), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"then it doesnt count."

No, I'm sorry but I'm afraid Dan is absolutely right, The Mob were definitely the best band on Crass records, even if their album wasn't on Crass and the single they did release on Crass wasn't even their best single.

Other great acts who had something released on Crass and haven't been mentioned so far: Captain Sensible; Zounds; Chumbawamba (contributed a track on one of the Bullshit Detector comps - as did Napalm Death IIRC)

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
Found this searching for threads about Annie Anxiety (listening to Jackamo at the moment) couldn't find much about her, wondered if anyone wants to do a S/D or POX on her.

But while I'm on this thread, my faves are much the same as listed above: Flux of Pink Indians, Zounds, Honey Bane, Crass themselves, Anthrax, Rudimentary Peni, in roughly that order probably. Also lots of songs on Bullshit Detector #1 and #2 are great if very lo-fi! Haven't got #3.

poopy pants, Thursday, 12 August 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

No love for Poison Girls or Dirt? (I have never heard Hit Parade)

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 12 August 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Forgot about Dirt actually! Hit Parade were pretty awful from what I remember... not that keen on Poison Girls either but only heard a couple of songs.

Managed to get the Honey Bane and Flux of Pink Indians 7"s off Ebay for not very much, couple of quid each I think.

poopy pants, Thursday, 12 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Flux are one of my favorite bands of all time. From Neu Smell to Uncarved Block. I really liked "take the toys from the boys" by Poison Girls. (i think that was the title. It wasn't a typical song of theirs.) The Dirt I heard years ago I really liked.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 12 August 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

chaki, Monday, 5 May 2008 05:28 (seventeen years ago)

I had that Honey Bane disc at one point. Dunno if I sold it or not.

libcrypt, Monday, 5 May 2008 05:29 (seventeen years ago)

Poison Girls for me too. but there's so much great stuff on the label.

stirmonster, Sunday, 23 January 2022 02:28 (four years ago)

I have all this already but this is pretty much wall to wall bangers. Would cut Andy T and D&V. Conflict and the Subhumans are weird omissions?

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Sunday, 23 January 2022 02:41 (four years ago)

1) Flux Of Pink Indians - Tube Disasters 4.06

that means it has the Neu Smell introduction which I love on its own but in a compilation it should probably just cut to the actual song? maybe not because the "parliament says it's safe, well why not bury it there?" line is pretty cool before the song kicks in

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Sunday, 23 January 2022 02:46 (four years ago)

where is Kronstadt Uprising band

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Sunday, 23 January 2022 07:25 (four years ago)

1) Chumbawamba - Revolution 4.43

kind of feel like this song sums up the entire history of failed political movements in the UK and why we can't have nice things. no i don't know how to fix it

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Sunday, 23 January 2022 07:29 (four years ago)

who wants to talk about Fallout

I'm not sure I want to right now.

3 brilliant singles as Six Minute War. Crass weren't left wing enough for them

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Sunday, 23 January 2022 07:56 (four years ago)

did you know? the queen sucks nazi cocks

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Sunday, 23 January 2022 07:57 (four years ago)

D&V is one of my all time favourites. i never liked Conflict.

1) Chumbawamba - Revolution 4.43

kind of feel like this song sums up the entire history of failed political movements in the UK and why we can't have nice things. no i don't know how to fix it

i feel exactly the same.

stirmonster, Sunday, 23 January 2022 11:21 (four years ago)

that means it has the Neu Smell introduction which I love on its own but in a compilation it should probably just cut to the actual song?

laboured over and over on this and decided, particularly as it is ther first track on that side, to keep the introduction.

stirmonster, Sunday, 23 January 2022 12:43 (four years ago)

Can ye smell the neu smell, travelling through the air?
Aye I can lad, it's a coming from over there
Over the hills, down in the valley, there's new buildings there
There's a nuclear power dumpsite someone doesn't care
Parliament says it's safe, well why not build it there..

meisenfek, Sunday, 23 January 2022 19:41 (four years ago)

xpost sorry I didn't realise you'd compiled this or I wouldn't have been so nitpicky!

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Thursday, 27 January 2022 20:59 (four years ago)

that's ok. i'd have been nitpicky if someone else compiled it. i co-compiled it with an old friend who was drumnmer for the apostles when he was 14. tbh i'm not sure why subhumans slipped through.

stirmonster, Thursday, 27 January 2022 22:40 (four years ago)

Chr*s L*w? (I don't know him but I see him post here and there on FB/elsewhere and he seems like a smart guy)

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Friday, 28 January 2022 11:21 (four years ago)

yup, that's him.

stirmonster, Friday, 28 January 2022 15:19 (four years ago)

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Saturday, 29 January 2022 21:20 (four years ago)

Living Legends - Island Wars was on initially and then got uncermoniously swapped out for something else. Maybe there will be a volume 2, though this volume took over 5 years to put together so maybe not.

stirmonster, Saturday, 29 January 2022 22:42 (four years ago)

I can imagine getting the rights to some of this stuff might be challenging. It's great that labels like Overground and La Vida Es Un Mus (via Sealed/Demo Tapes) have been reissuing so much of the lesser known stuff from this era though.

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Saturday, 29 January 2022 23:05 (four years ago)

one year passes...

i see i spammed this last year but it is finally out and as all proceeds are being donated i think it's maybe ok to post this again.

Love the Cravats, this looks cool but I also have all these records already!

Goose Bigelow, Fowl Gigolo (the table is the table), Friday, 12 May 2023 11:37 (two years ago)

it's really aimed at a new audience (hopefully!) although hoping The Mob - No Doves Fly Here (unreleased original studio version) might lure in some oldies. :)

stirmonster, Friday, 12 May 2023 12:54 (two years ago)

Yeah, I can see that— :)
