It looks good, but I haven't heard it yet

This is the thread for recommending things we haven't actually heard, at least not beyond a minimal exposure, (and maybe chiming in if we have heard things that others bring up).

I was in Tower yesterday and heard a little bit of what appears to be a new Gary Lucas CD. It's a collection of covers of Chinese pop songs from the middle of the last century, and what little I listened to sounded good. The material is being treated seriously.

Well, I'd like to recommend the new album by The Bug. Why? Two people whose opinion I highly respect have recommended it. And yet, confusingly, the guy in the record shop whose opinion I also respect told me it wasn't much cop. Hmmmm...

I'v heard a track from the latest mcklusky album, i'v only heard it once and quit a long while ago but it sounded great, i keep totaly forgeting to get it, reason probably is my current obsession with the two Syd Barrett LPs and one compilation.

(Emphasis on new or recent material, not that anyone has not been answering that way.)

Descarga.com has been listing some things that sound good. From their site:

Tensy Krismant
Flash Cubano
CD (Universal/Pimienta) 2003
It's as if, suddenly, the esthetic stasis that has plagued Cuban art music has given way. Krismant's Flash Cubano, composed out of shards of earlier Cuban classical music, comparsas, dance music, modern compositions and more, suggests a new reevaluation of Cuban music by Cuban musicians. Krismant is a Cuban pianist, and he plays against just percussion on five tracks. On six, he plays alone. On two tracks, a violinist joins the percussion. Some of the music, by Lecuona, Chano Pozo, Jose Maria Vitier and New York's own Oriente Lopez, is specific. Some of the music, by the way it's arranged, suggests styles and eras, as if letting a shadow tell a story is somehow more effective than spelling it out. The pieces are short, and powerful, pungent with humidity and intelligence.

Although I'm not a big fan of Cuban music, and I only like a few tracks by Los Van Van, I keep hearing good things (from people with somewhat similar tastes to mine) about the solo projects by their former pianist, Cesar Pedroso (aka Pupy).

M. Ward, but then I have heard his previous stuff, which is less interesting than having a good feeling having heard *nothing*.

Maybe Caitlin Cary is in a different category. I'm intrigued, not enough to have bought any, and maybe not enough that I ever shall.

This is not going to be successful. I should have called it, "Recommend something you haven't heard."

(I'll follow directions, damnit!)
"Decoration Day" by the Drive-By Truckers.

I keep thinking of that Bjork song now.

Also, The Now Sound of Brazil (Six Degrees) sounded okay in my quick sampling of it yesterday. I have the impression that they are doing a better job of taking the electronic dance idea and maintaining their own style of rhythms than most countries are (not that I've made a very comprehensive survey).
