"This moment of 'true music' was brought to you by Budweiser"

Have you heard these annoying commercials on the radio? Seen the annoying commercials on television?

What the hell purpose does this serve? Of course musicians take their work seriously. How stupid does Budweiser think we are? What decision making process was involved in choosing these "true music" artists? There appears to be 2 commercials only: The Donnas and some other band that appears to be quite full of itself.

Is Budweiser also the same company that started sponsoring Saturday Night Live musical acts? Is Budweiser the new annoying wannabe beer or what?

SHUT UP ALREADY, you fuckin' beer! The only lip I want outta you is on the top of your bottle.

One of the funniest things I've ever heard was an attempt at an alt-rock beer ad song back in 1993 or something -- radio ad only. What made it mind boggling was that the fake band was apparently trying to be Pavement rather than Pearl Jam or whatever -- right down to the lyrics. So you had a guy drawling along about "having a beer and a good time and now the guitar part is gonna sound like this..."

Has any band that took a beer endorsement EVER made it?
I know of two, two different companies and they both got screwed into playing corporate tours of fern bars with big beer banners behind them and one contractually HAD to take two beer breaks in their set so Miller-Lite girls could come onstage and serve them beers they didn't even enjoy drinking. They went no where with it.

Piss off you watery 'Merkin beer, your not even strong enough to defend yourself!

The best piece of alcoholic beverage advertising at the moment is that bitter advert (Worthingtons?) that uses "My Way" by Limp Bizkit to advertise it. Call me stupid, I'm guessing there's little crossover in Limp Bizkit fans and bitter drinkers.

If you were a Limp Bisquick fan, you'd be drinking and bitter too.

speaking of beer and endorsements, I remember hearing what could very well be an urban myth about Bob Pollard getting a call from Bud to write a Guided By Voices song for a budweiser ad. Apparently Bob, being the Bud fanatic he is, happily accepted and wrote a tune, but then they wanted him to actually sing "budweiser" or "this bud's for you" or one of the catchphrases in the song and he told them to piss off.

a funny story, whether true or not, but I wonder, does anyone know anything about that?
