No no no; it's like "here's some coke but a third of it is actually ice and the coke is cold enough on it's own already".

Anyways, I quite like the extra sessioncuts etc things, as there's lots of fun things to be found there on jazz albums. And if I don't feel like it, I'll just turn the album off after the real songs are over.
But death to people who mix the bonus cuts INTO the regular tracklist. Waah!

Of course, there's always the possibility of just programming in the tracks you want, but who on earth actually does that?

Hereafter known as The Supersize Theory.
"Would you like an extra 25 minutes of filler with that Blue Note reissue, sir?"
― Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)
Which might not be a selling point if most people think it's just fizzy water. I've said it before, though: those are some of my favorite moments on that album.

Anyway, maybe instead of adding bonus tracks as a way of getting customers to think of it as value for the money record labels could, I dunno, charge less money for the CD without putting the bonus tracks on there? (I know, what a radical idea.)

die9, they do. you can find all sorts of $6-$10 cds - cut-outs, special priced 70s bands' greatest hits, used cds, calling a 30-45 minute album an ep and pricing it down, etc.

RONGEST SHIT EVER.
― ian, Friday, 29 August 2008 15:50 (seventeen years ago)
Is true, there's nothing wrong with any of Tago Mago, and people who won't buy albums with less than 20 songs on don't deserve to hear it anyway.
― contenderizer, Friday, 29 August 2008 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

Oh yeah, Ege is pretty great, but like Tago Mago is like a needle in your brain!
― I know, right?, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:13 (seventeen years ago)
The >>> thing would work better with less hyperbole. Both great albums.

― RabiesAngentleman, Friday, 29 August 2008 18:09 (seventeen years ago)
soundtracks is just slightly better than monster movie and both are great records, just not as ambitious/detailed as their later work.

Thanks (indirectly) to something Sick Mouthy posted last week (i forget exactly what), i blew £17 on the original Spoon-issue vinyl of Ege Bamyasi yesterday, having only heard one song on it once.
Did they see me coming? Either way, the sleeve's totally going up on my wall...

― ۞_۞ (ciderpress), Monday, 20 April 2009 07:04 (sixteen years ago)
They're both great. Ege offers compressed Kraut-funk thrills, while Tago is an inspired sprawl. So, yeah Ege is a better starting point, but I can't help but feel I want the tracks to be longer. The grooves on Vitamin C and Spoon are so hot, I want them to go on forever. Perhaps one day they'll put out Mile Davis style box sets with the full unedited jams. Or was Ege a conscious attempt to be more concise, meaning that no such thing exists? Tago edges it though. The first half is pretty much the greatest thing ever. Utterly transcendent. Aumgn is great, especially in remastered form. I really don't know why people object to it so much: there's loads going on, it's a sonic delight!I once flew over Greenland while listening to Future Days. Damn, that was nice.
