I'm looking for a mix of post-punk. Know of any DJs out there that put out a mix to grab. Blends and all that good stuff. Anything in NY?

Andrew Weatherall - Nine O'Clock Drop

Curt (cgould), Monday, 12 May 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, so that isn't a mix, but it has a DJ's name on it!

Curt (cgould), Monday, 12 May 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

post-punk is rock'n'roll, not that euro shit!!!! dance isn't real music anyway because it's not made on proper instruments!!!!!

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 12 May 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

do people mix post-punk?

robin (robin), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

My question is, and this may be naive, but why would anyone want to "mix" post-punk? For continuous non-stop all out dancing? I'm thinking of Pere Ube, Burma, Chameleons, Swell Maps, The Mekons and the Cure.

The Playgroup Party Mix has lots of post-punk snippets, mixed in with the disco, electro-pop, and hip-hop snippets.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 12 May 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

any of these comps can be turned into a mix just by
1) turning their contents into mp3's,
2) pouring the mp3s into a directory,
3) installing a crossfader plug-in into WinAmp/X11Amp, and
4) Setting WinAmp/X11Amp for random play.

Can't Stop It! fucken rocks and you gotta own it

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

can't find it. Was also looking for the 2-CD set of late 80s madchester called "Unbelievable", but I don't think its available on the east coast of America.
Pity.
The track listing looked awesome.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't Stop It is pretty grand. :-) Great surprises there!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

if it wasn't for Can't Stop It, I wouldn't otherwise know of the existence of The Apartments' "Help", which crashed into my top 5 tracks of all time almost instantly...

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Can“t stop it is great!

Playgroup DJ Kicks mix CD sort of qualifies - def a mix, and sort of post punk

Robin Goad (rgoad), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

These 2-disc sets from K-Tel are a good start for novices; especially if you get all of them, and listen to them in *this* order...
http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/dre100/e170/e17048qpcmi.jpgDoubleshot: Punk

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drd800/d869/d86964l0mpe.jpgDoubleshot: New Wave

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/dre100/e198/e19811uf0fd.jpgDoubleshot: Modern Rock

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/dre100/e134/e13460gjmb9.jpgDoubleshot: Alt Rock
Granted, to a journeyman, these are not as full of surprises as they ought to be, but K-Tel does tend to play it safe.
I only own the Modern Rock One, but the track listings for the others are slightly above average. One or two semi-obvious 'hits' for every obscurity.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

And when your done with those K-Tels...these might work, though they are more geared towards New Wave (with some small amount of College Rock) rather than Post Punk...

The 1988 disc is the most College Rockisk, the 1986 one is the most New-Wavey.

Fuck I used to love those Hardest Hits comps.

SELF-AGGRANDIZEMENT ALERT

If you're interested in a copy, or I promised you a copy eons ago (Colin M? Mark P? jel?), please e-mail me. All's I want is your undying love & a mix type thing in return. All rights reserved re: the artists represented on these two CD-Rs yadda yadda yadda.

And while you really can't dance to it too much, it'll make the booty quiver enough to make it seem like a dance type thing.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 15 May 2003 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I get in on this action, David R?
Send me an email with your land address and your tastes in music, and I'll see what I can whip up.
(Yes...not only is the second wave of CD-R's in full effect, yo...Custos is now a CD-R mailing machine!)
